So my mother in laws 2 series Active Tourer 20D went into lip mode.
2 weeks ago it thew a gearbox error, which i thought is the Aisin geabox that needs a gearbox oil change.
Once at the workshop they determined that it was a faulty fuel sensor that begins to leak, causing diesel to flow down the fuel line, to the wire harness, then into the DDE (ecu). If too much fuel gets into the Ecu, it could be catastrophic.
Upon doing research i see this is a massively mentioned and discussed issue on all Bmw platforms that transversely mounted engine, or front wheel drive layout.
They were lucky enough that they were able to dry out the ecu and no serious damage had occurred.
So this is a headsup to any owners, its worth spending the money every 4 years or so and replace the fuel sensor that is prone to leaking.
