Hi All, I have a tough decision to make regarding purchasing a new vehicle, thoughts please.

Both cars are 2014 models, same mileage, similar features. Merc is Edition C with ILS,Sunroof, PDC and 18", BM has sunroof,PDC, MSport an Xenon and 18" RF.

my thoughts: BM is new shape compared to Merc, BM's do depreciate faster so could be the same thing? Merc comes with 6 yr 100 000 motorplan whilst BM only 5 year. Merc is 150kW and 500nm whilst BM is 135kw and 380nm.

Thoughts please?

Youve answered your on question bud.
Merc has more power, longer maintenance plan and is newer.

The drive however is the thing that you must decide.

Both cars appear to be excellent.

Just make sure on that 6 yr 100 000 plan because I know some merc plans you starting paying percentages at certain mileage

BM for me please..

The BM is newer, new F type. The Merc is the old C class.

What's the price difference?
Same price and same mileage...that why the dilemma. Coz of the new C out, the old C is being drastically reduced. The C250 CDI went for around R520K before the new C came out.

Eish, must take note of that...that not nice...you drove with standard seats or sports seats...I think the Edition C comes with sports seats

I would never buy the merc now, the new one is out. The F30 is the latest and lets not forget the auto box is the best on the market.

You spend allot of your life is your car so i say buy with your Heart not your Head.

F30 LCI is coming next year, so current F30 is gonna take a big knock, especially due to the trade in assist bmw is offering.......

My wife's uncle has a little dealership and is a Merc Fan, but he says the BMWs have a better resale value than Mercs over the last couple of years.

I'm no expert, but that's what he told me

Me and my dad being in the buy and selling of cars part time, I think they both have more or less the same depreciation for eg my dad bought a 2013 C180 kompressor Avantgarde auto with 80 000km (high for the age) for R245 000 last week. .
Now, will you ever find a 2013 F30 320i with more or less same specs for that money. Don't think so? If you get it I'll buy for myself:)

And, he want to trade in his 2011 ML350cdi Sportpack, 114 000km, still Motorplan. Trade value R450k, retail R520k.
He got offered R300k for his ML on a new BMW X3 2.0d.
Again, you're not going to find a 2011 BMW X5 3.0D/3.5D for R300k anyware. Don't know the comparison on these above cars prices when new.
So I think if you compare apples with apples BMW's trade value is better

CAR mag tested the new Merc C Class against the BMW F30 and seemed to prefer the F30 overall. Okay, this the petrol models, so the 320i, not 320d. But I think their conclusion for the diesels would be much the same. Now the older C Class is probably a different story. In my opinion, cannot go wrong with the F30 320d!

F30 LCI & new C Class Coupe coming next year. You do the math.

In my experience the C Class is very boring to drive.

non of the above, dont like merc and not a fan of the f30 range

Why no love for the F30? From what i have read it seems to be a big improvement even over the E90

To be honest, i'm still in my 20's so would opt for the BMW purely because of the aggressive styling

If i were 40 it would be a different matter altogether
