Exhaust Sound Mod

Hey guys

A mate of mine has an E90 335i and he said that if i want the exhaust to sound a little better what i can do is disconnect the butterfly switch near the exhaust. and in doing so the butterfly will stay open like it does in the morning.

Is this true?

Will this affect warranty ?

You can google Golf Tee Mod....that is basically what your friend is referring too... This mod doesnt throw any error's, whereas if you disconnect the plug inside the boot, it will throw a "soft error" which you wont detect but can be detected via a diagnosis....

I would advise you to undo the simple mod whenever you take the car into the dealership.

It used to make quite a difference on the e46 330i's.

the JB4 G4 has a setting for that. Are you sure your tune from BMS doesnt have a setting?

From what I understand, it should only make a difference at lower revs ie. when the valve is usually closed.

No flaps in e46 M3. Golf tee mod pretty easy. Just reconnect the hose before taking the car in. No one will know.

Only makes the exhaust louder in low refs and idle (0 - 2500RPM)

this only makes ur car louder on startup and car is cold, if car is hot, it doesnt make any difference.

Yep agreed...

If done incorrectly a like disconnecting from the top in the boot , it will throw a error code as well.

yes if you disconnect or pull pipe off, it will throw errors.

just use a cable tie and bend pipe in half, put cable tie, done.
dont need to disconnect any wires etc and easy to undo....

OK cool thanks for the replies guys. Im thinking about DeCat as my first mod so might as well go that route and make the car scream:yuck: like a banshee

ye thought that if i drive in sport mode it will make a difference but still the same sound. Josh-ZN, Burger tunning have never done a M135i F20 motor so he says he is not to sure how we can go about doing it but will check it out.

Im going to check it out this afternoon and hopefully make some vids for you guys so we can hear the difference
