Exhaust questions..

Hey guys,

My 325turbo needs a new exhaust system, the current system is a "previous owner patch job" :yuck:

So, its not going to be a daily drive, and i want it loud.

Can i run the car safely without the last muffler? Just the middle box and then strait pipes out at the back (or even behind the passenger side front wheel)?

Thoughts?

You can run straight through pipes. The less exhaust restriction on a turbo car the more power but only if you and the neighbours can live with the noise. Install two resonators to dampen the sound....and enjoy. I currently run complete straight pipes/no cats only the rear mufflers. I only kept the rear mufflers because the car made a freak of a noise.

But my summer project is to get rid of it completely. I am looking at longer resonators (18inch) which are on their way from the US. Gonna be a loud & fun summer.

Ray, if you asking me then the answer is no. Considering a single 3.5 inch pipe ending in a dual tip.

A single 89 mm has the same area as two 63 mm pipes , so should flow the same .
I was wondering about the weight . Which will be heavier ?

With all the speed humps a single 89 mm may be a bit low on a daily drive .( Here in East London over some humps I just touch the e36 328i exhaust - everything is std on the car ,tyres height etc !!!! ) :argh:

a single pipe with the same area will flow slightly better than two pipes :) so you could go a little smaller than 89...

what power is it putting down?

You can go straight through. Relative to you power output I would choose the pipe. Remember the thicker the pipe the heavier it is so don't get carried away.
