Just wanting to know from the e90 320i drivers, if any of you have done any changes to your exhausts and if you happy or not? These cars arnt built for speed I know.. Just wanting to get a better sound without any drone on the highway. Would changing the box at the back make any difference?

rear box = silencer = smaller one = better sound
centre box and or Mid-cat = resonator = not much change in sound, but might cause vibration and dronning if removed, due to harmonics set up in the length of the pipe

So if I went to powerflow and just put a nice small box on the back and nice tips ofcourse, I should have a nice tune going

do it

Different car but I have a 323i E90 and I did a muffler delete after extensive research on Bimmerforums and e90 post and I truly love it. Its not as loud as I thought and has an amazing pop and crackle when down shifting. Its only really loud in the mornings when I start it otherwise after a minute or two settles down to a wonderful growl. Even my Fiancé loves it. I must say though my fuel bill has increased as I like hearing it lol

Hi,
I have a E90 325i and been contemplating on doing something like this for a while now but all the stories of droning been putting me off..So you did a muffler delete and put a straight pipe? No droning at all,and would you mind posting a video of how it sounds.

I don't want to Hijack the thread. Yes, that is correct. It cost me R550 and I thought if it does drone I will just change it back to stock again as I have my original muffler. As I said the only time where it is really loud is when the car is cold but it then settles down. You get a bit of drone but in a very small part of the rev range. My Mrs doesn't like loud cars at all and she loves how mine sounds. I took a drive to Gateway the other day and you can hear its there but its not obtrusive, however when you put your foot down you get BMW six cylinder goodness. Its been the best R550.00 I have spent. Try it, you can always put it back to stock if you don't like it or put a freeflow box to tone it down a bit. In my opinion it sounds great. Will try post a video when I get a chance:=):

astheically would look nicer
from a sound point of view, similar to the way a "wind instrument" (trumpet/trombone etc) is affected by the shape and size of the horn, in the same way tips can and if chosen correctly could definitely affect the quality of the sound exiting at the rear

but don't expect a drastic change, more like a musical tune-up of the existing sound
