Howdie Y'all
So after a very long stay on the platform where I work, I was granted parole and made my way home.
I arrived at Auto Bavaria at 7:30am on the Monday morning and was greeted with a wonderful sight - my baby all dolled up on the showroom floor.
Did all the paperwork and I hit the shops before heading home. The 600km drive back to Kuruman was awesome. I let my sweet ride stretch her legs a bit and I was amazed at the power, speed and agility of this monster of a vehicle. I was truly impressed to say the least. I stopped in Coligny for a quick pit stop for me and the new beastie!
The more I drive, the more i played with the idrive, found the right settings, found my own little comfort zone in my little beauty.
By the time i was nearing home, the sun was starting to set and the auto headlights flicked on very nicely - i was becoming more and more impressed with every kilometre i drove. The last stretch of road before i hit home is a 12km dirt road. It had been raining a little before I got there and i didn't really want to get this new ride all dirty and all, but hey - that's why i bought it. So i made my way down the gravel road, through some puddles and eventually back home. What an awesome ride. I enjoyed every single last kilometre on the road with her and she is now stabled next to her older sibling, albeit a 318.
It looked a heck of a lot worse after the heavy rains, but this was just from taking the kids to school and back.
I was really amazed at the agility on the dirt roads, as well as through the muddy patches i ran into as well. I know now that i have bought a real gem of a car and i am impressed beyond belief.
A week later we took a trip back up to Joburg and one again, it is a mile muncher that is as comfortable as any other luxury sedan on the road. With an average speed of around 140-150 i was getting about 11.9l/100km fuel consumption of which I don't think is really that bad. If i behave, i know I can get it down much lower, but I am not too worried about it at the moment - I am just enjoying my sweet sweet ride.
Last but not least, here is a pic of my baby at my sister in laws house - all ready for the long road home again.
If you guys have never driven an X5 3.0d (E70) before, do yourself a favour and get behind the wheel of one. You will be greatly surprised at the power and handling abilities of the smaller scale starship enterprise! I am loving it and I am sure you guys and gals would too!
Cheers
