Hello everybody,

my name is majed and I'm new here my friend told me to pop the question here, and i'll get the best answers about my BWM M5 F10 2013.

we had a heavy rain in the city and the car just stopped and did not start the engine at all. I was wondering does the F10's have Engine lock safety?

Thank you very much.

Do you mean "hydrolock", as in, enough rain for the car to have ingested water?

What do you mean by " doest it swing",as in, the engine moves ? if thats what you mean the engine doesn't swing ( like if its locked )

If the engine doesnt turn even with a good battery, and nothing wrong with the electrical system, then you must have driven into a small pond, very large puddle, for the engine to have ingested enough water to cause it hydraulically lock up because of water ingestion.

Rain showers alone wont cause an engine to ingest enough water for it hydralically sieze up

and if it is hydralically siezed up, because of large volumes of water ingestion, such as driving into a massive puddle or small pond of water, then I would think the engine is "bye-bye"

being an F series, would MP not be the option to look at?

Call your broker and get your insurance to look at your claim if the motor ingested water.

I don't know the term 'engine lock safety' and a Google search produced nothing. If you're talking about the hydro-lock that has been discussed above this would mean a sufficient volume of water had to be presented to the air-intakes and get past the air-filters and turbos to lock up the engine. Assuming the car's intake system is standard it's hard to imagine this can happen simply from rain. Had you just driven through a large puddle at some speed when the engine stopped ? I imagine the result would have been almost instantaneous.

What symptoms of water-induced damage did the dealer report ?

the chances of this being an electrical issue, are much higher than a hydrolocked engine imo..... you'd have to do something really drastic to get that much water in the engine.

any of your dashboard lights coming on? have you checked if you battery has a charge?

I'm sure that car has low intake scoops for air into airbag & if you're driving through a puddle at normal speed it could def take in water. must take to the plugs & turn it but i wouldnt get into all that lol new engine please

If on Motorplan take the car straight to BMW.

Even with heavy rain and without driving into a very large puddle off water, it would be unlikely that the car would get water into the engine.

However if the car had debris in the water channels close to the DME, than water could have split into the DME area. However the DME is also quite well protected.
