Howsit guys.

Need some help here.

Car was standing for about 3 days..Started up the car this morning in the cold weather and it had a rough idle..switch it off and this light pictured below appeared briefly and went off. Car was idling fine after that and driving 100%.

Should I be concerned? Also what is this light?I have never seen it before.

Car is 330D lci.

Help please.

That's the glow plug light if i'm correct, you are suppose to wait for the light to go out before you start your engine.

Thanks Leon.

You see when I started the car initially it started but idling was rough. I switched it off and back on again and that's when the light came on and disappeared.

howsit! yup, those are normal. with diesels, you generally turn the key on (without starting) ..wait for the glow plug light to go off (a few seconds...could be longer depending on how cold it is)... then proceed to start the engine.

dont start it before the lights go off...

What happens if you start it before the light goes off ? I know many diesel owners who don't even know this light exists , they just jump in , start and go .

what damage is being done?

you will just end up cranking for longer before ignition. so from that i would assume:

- your starter gets overused
- working on the theory that theres not alot of oil available at crank.. it probably means less lubrication for an engine cycle for longer than whats ideal.
- injectors are still spraying fuel into the cylinder.. so probably bore wash as well?

its all small details... but im sure would probably add up an engine not running properly after a while
