Damaged water pipe:

Then I had the turbos off, just some pics of that:

all the parts out on the floor:

Then it was time for the removal of the wastegates You can see there was something done to the rear turbo, but was not replaced with the upgraded ones like I asked:

Then cam the front turbos and it's wastegate was basically seized up:

Then I noticed the exhaust side of the front turbo was a little wet:

Removed the cores so I could take them to Enthusiast garage(Afzil) for a recon:

Rear one was not bad:

Then eventually my parts from turner motorsport arrived:

Aswell as the reconditioned cores:

Post to be continued......

After the time was car was standing for a while while I was waiting on the parts I noticed some oil from the gearbox, but we will get to the gearbox in a while:

Then I also recieved the heat shields that was missing when I got the car but you could see the level of skill used to remove them, I also received a brand new coolant hose together with the heat shields so that was sorted at-least:

Then just some picks of installing the new wastegates and bushes:

and the turbo's was ready to go back on the car:

I then had to source a new rear heat shield for behind the turbo as it was not with the shields returned to me, and also note that they were not installed when I go the car, manage to find one at a scrap yard:

and then it was time to re-install the snails:

Used new bolts as far as I could:

And then the car was back on the ground for the first time in about a month:

I also replaced the sump gasket while the subframe was removed and after the car was on it's wheels also did the tappet cover and the oil filter housing. I did find some weird gasket maker like stuff on the filter housing:

Then I received some picture of this car:

I was very keen to trade it in as it had some mods done already, but after a test drive I realized just how much options my car has that this one did not so decided to rather give it a skip.

I also drove the car to Durban and back over December and must say it was well behaved and did not give any issues, maintained a average of 11km/l so was quite impressed.

Then cam time for a gearbox oil change and ZF gave me some bad news:

fdXcIlO.jpg

Adaption values are out of spec and gearbox will have to be reconditioned, this was obviously not in my price budget so I started looking for a second-hand box, I might have found one and the might happen within the next month.

Then last week Friday I decided to get a baseline dyno run done:

wKT8Buo.jpg

I think for a stock car this is not bad at all and a few minutes after the dyno run I also installed some DCI to the car:

RnG0z4y.jpg

Will do another run after I have done some more work to the car, and the gearbox, as that is the next thing on my list before I am allowing myself to do any further mods.

So there you have it, My last few months in a nutshell

This is just heartbreaking to see.

So sorry man
:blueCry:

Yeah man, this just reaffirmed my theory in "If you want it done right, do it yourself"

I know there are good mechanics out there, they are just becoming more scarce.

Also this guy calls himself a land-rover and Jaguar SPECIALIST, looking at the gasket issue I think I know why land-rovers leak oil:skit:

What anabsolute mission my word!

Well done on the work there. Between yourself and Afzil at least this work was done properly! It's so difficult to trust anyone in the motor industry these days but at least the car is 100% now!

Good job.:praise:
Quite reluctant to give my car to some 'specialist'.
Recently got myself an N55 E90 335i. The car had very long BMW dealer service list. The car is running well, but if you look at details, wiring, pipes all not in the designated position.
Lucky I got my gearbox services @ ZF after getting the car.
Well, to me, it's a hobby to sort the car out. The car will get back to the good condition as a fanatics owning it.

Just had a quick read through this thread again, I must say you are a very patient man.. this job in a workshop with a lift and helping hands looks tedious and difficult and you did this at home by yourself. Major respect :cartel:

Thanx for the kind words guys, A lift would make my life a whole lot easier but it can be done without it, you just spend a fair amount of time on your back:roflol:

one day when I grow up I will install a lift to work on my cars:cartel:
