Easy Mods for BMW 318Ti E46

I was also thinking about doing the 325I motor in my 318ti, but i think it will be easier to just buy a 330i

As it looks now ill keep my car and add a 1200 harly Dyna to my collection in a years time.

Should go for 330i motor in the ti...if i decide to keep mine, thats the way i will be heading...just something different i guess
M3 would be sweet, but not gonna happen anytime soon

just bear in mind if you for the 330i motor you probably have to upgrade your brakes as well!!! no use having all that power and you cannot stop the car:rollsmile:

as far as i know, the brakes from 318-325 is the same, only 328 AND 330 has bigger diameter discs, and therefore different calipers.

I knew the 330 brake set i bouhgt would come in handy one day...318ti brakes are really good...prefer them to my 130i brakes

I Also own a 318 ti E46 and have searched every where for info on mods and come up with nothing!! I dont think any one has actually modified one!!
will the 6 cylinder motor fit ?

Yup it should fit just fine, seeing as you got a 325ti which is a 6 cylinder, the engine bays are pretty much the same if I am not mistaken.
But if you go this route you have to go for the 3l route, 330ti :drool:

Come on it cant be that bad.......N42 okay with all the issues on the car it has been solved and now it drives like a dream.......

Wish i could get me a 6 cylinder that is the most iconic motor BMW has ever built the 6 Cylinders............

you wont get much out of the 318i..

But you can get a small gain.. get powerflow to make up an exhaust, then get the car chipped/remapped

if you want more acceleration & dont mind loosing some top end speed then get the diff ratio changed for a higher ratio.. you can go higher ratio if you replace the 5 speed with a 6 speed box..


exhaust & chip you looking at about R4000 + R3500 (I think)
Diff ratio about R2500
6 Speed box probly about R6000 to R8000...

Maybe look at putting in a k&n flatpad, again.. not much to be gained.
