Another Q for you guys in the morning if a 530d e60 gives white smoke for about 1minute idling then as soon as start driving smokes disappears for the hole day till next sun up.... If there is a Vacuum pipe broken can this cause the smoke. or is this a Injector leak or maybe :idea:Glow Plug faulty. Coz i tent to get a Glow-Bulb facing upwards in the middle of the Drivers Dash but then disappears as i leave, but don't get this every time say: 1 out of 100 times this will come up but nothing on the idrive. And can't find the exact image in the manual of the car

White smoke is most likely moisture or unburnt diesel, most likely cause are the glow plugs. If you have a mulitmeter and some basic tools, you can remove the engine cover and set the multimeter to test resistance then measure each of the 6 glow plugs, If im not mistaken the value should be below 4 ohms for ideal operation, would be best to test when cold.

Or just get a diagnostic done - glow plugs show if they are faulty. I know I have like 4 dead glow plugs and I get a cloud on startup on cold mornings, but apart from that she is fine.

Why you say that? what are the symptoms off injectors that leak. coz i've seen what happened don't want that and the car has only 120000km on the odo and heard that a injector that does leak starts doing this before every piston melts up.

injector problem symptoms are mostly rough idle.smoke on cold startup is 99% of the time glow plugs.

almost every car i see early in the morning and pulling out of the driveway in our road, or near the schools, have white smoke (steam is more accurate i think) pouring out the back.

i always thought it was because of this ball-shrinking damned cold weather we're having up here in joburg!

doesnt seem to matter if its a diesel or petrol engine, they all belch white for about 5-10 minutes after they're started! LOL

Diesel has white smoke that smells of diesel just after startup when the glowplugs aren't working correctly. It is gone after a few seconds. Steam is a completely different thing altogether.

I don't think you should be seeing steam coming out of the exhaust just after start-up (cold start) as it usually take a couple of minutes for steam to come out, well that is how it is on my car at least.
