I am not sure why we fitted a face lift cluster but we did.(actually I remembered now the problem arose when we changed the rear suspension and diff from the later E28/E24. The speedo pick up is on the diff so we had to fit a new cluster to get the speedo working.)
The chrome ring surrounds were a finishing touch that I iniatially thought would not work.
I was wrong.

Unlike my previous post I know exactly why we fitted new lenses that are as close to OE as dammit.
Quick comparison between old and new.
Lenses were brought in with LED globes

Right side of engine bay with power steering reservoir relocated.
One of the trickier parts of the restoration as I needed the space on the left side of the engine bay for the M5 air filter box

That about wraps up this car
We still need to complete 1 or 2 areas of concern however I have not found a permanent solution for the oil leak from the back of the cylinder head drain which most M88 or S38 owners are familiar with.
The other is the Air mass meter which is not working properly and makes the engine stumble.

Air mass meter NLA so we are looking for other sources and if anyone on this forum knows or hears of one please let me know.

Stunning Uncle Pete,

Saw it in person when I came to visit …..

Pictures don’t do justice.

As for the rest of the cars in the workshop, just as stunning …what a dream garage

Instead of starting a new thread, I felt it best to carry on with everything here.

As some would know through visits or groups, with Gods grace, I acquired this E24 back in 2019, and a fair share of the big work that @Peter@AEW carried out was documented here.

It's been a long road, with a lot of ups and downs, challenges finding and hunting for the right parts, and getting the car to where I would be happy with her.

Over the past year, we have carried out some work and attended to niggles which came up over time.

Im going to be hard pressed to find the pics of work done, but if Ido, I will attach them as I search the gallery.

1st up...

Jan 2024 :

Fitted a new alarm system and got the central locking sorted as well. This was a big issue for me personally, and I'm not sure why it didn't have a working one in the 1st place.

April 2024 :

A new battery installed as the one we fitted in 2020 was giving up. I'm glad to say that the car starts up 1st time, even after a few weeks of no usage.

May 2024:

Brake fluid pissed itself in the driveway after moving it a few meters. Pipe gave way probably due to an old clamp, or just aged, so we just opted to run new piping. It's been holding up well since.

Replaced fuel lines right through, also with new clamps etc, no more fuel smell in the garage.

August 2024 :

The gear level has A LOT of play on it, and felt sloppy and loose. We noticed a leak on the gearbox, so we decided to attend to both 1 time. The following items were attended to, and once everything was buttoned up, it felt so much better with way less play and slotted into gear perfectly.

- Gear selector bushes
- Selector seals
- Tail housing seal
- New gearbox oil
- Fresh engine oil and filter
- New Coolant

This brought up to scratch with ALL fluids replaced within a span of 12 months and gave peace of mind. The idling issue was resolved, and the hestiation when coming to a stop was now a thing of the past.

September 2024:

Was getting a nasty vibration while driving, and after some inspection and stripping, it turned out the propshaft needed a solid overhual. This was outsourced, and a 2 weeks later, she was back on the road driving like a dream.

November 2024 :

The aircon not working at all was erking me, so I got a hold of Peter, and the work began once again. Repairs the evaporator, replaced a line, and fitted a used compressor. Also pucked up a fault on a micro switch and has that sorted.

December 2024 :

Sent it for a minor detail inside and out to Sauber tech. Azhar gave it a nice bath, and also , we sourced new rubbers and locks for the wheel caps. These were fitted one time, and I picked her on the 27th of Decemeber.

The long drive was sublime, and the time capsule that this car is something words can't describe. The suspension work by Peter is amazing, and it all has come together so well.

The car doesn't float at all on the highway and for a 45-year car, just goes so well over impeefections in the road. You can't compare it to modern cars at all, but its not to be compared to them either. It reminds me so much of simpler times of my late dads 7 series and moms E30 that I feel somehow connected to them once again.

My 2 boys can not get over the age of the car, and that it is even older than I am. The young guy says it's still stunner and points out when people are staring at it. No doubt it turns more heads than anycar I've owned, no matter where it's driven, and people smile and wave with a thumbs up, which is appreciated.

I'm comfortable to start attending to some of the small cosmetics that I would like to get done.

On the list is :

- Some paint touch-ups
- Grill badge
- Complete detail and ceramic coat
- complete the tool kit
- build a cover for battery compartment and cover it in the same material as the boot lining
- condition the leather seats
- touch-up some interior
- find new rubber mats
- refit original radio, which has been serviced and fixed
- replace one door speaker

Spme pics after Picking her up in December.

Thanks for reading

Its only a year and a half late to the party, but the 928 S4 Porsche uses the same MAF.

Since those are readily available and cheap, I would appreciate a thank you gift in the form of a box of chocolates 🤪

PS - last comment only applicable after sourcing one from Porsche👀

Awesome car and thank you for the updates, keep them coming

What diff ratio are you using? Seems quite a bit higher, E34 M5 was doing over 3000rpm at 120...

ps. personal choice, but I think this car would look much better with stock indicators/rear lights, the black cheapens the experience for me
