Hi Guys,

My 335i started making this noise since yesterday after i switched it off, water temp is fine etc etc.

The noise stopped after a while, but this morning when unlocking the car, it came back.

Not sure what the problem is? Could it be the water pump/blow off solenoid?

Then engine was stone cold this morning - please see YouTube video below:

Get the codes read and take it from there. I know the fuel pump primes when you unlock but it only lasts a few seconds.

When my fuel pump was on the way out, my car would go into limp mode randomly between long intervals. Read the codes, cleared them all and then read them after some time, the high pressure fuel pump was causing the limp mode.

Sounds like your waterpump.

Unit is on its way out. You will need to replace the waterpump and change the thermostat while you are at it.

These electronic Waterpumps do tend to give in. (Common issue)

I was also thinking that, but what would make the water pump switch on when unlocking the car (car sitting overnight).

I don't think its the fuel pump as that goes off as normal.

Can confirm it's your waterpump.... Do u have a yellow radiator warning light on your dash or is it red... If it's red please don't drive the car

If you have a battery charger, you can try to bleed the system.... It's quite easy to do... Remove expansion bottle cap , have lots of cloth's around that area.... Put temperature to max setting and fan speed to lowest setting, then with key in, ignition only, step on the accelerator pedal for 10 seconds... This should initiate the bleed.. Takes 12-15mins to complete...

On cold start if the fan starts running and it's loud, it's another sign of the waterpump on its way out:thumbs:

What device are you using to read the codes? They should be shadow codes so won't be easily readable to just any code reader... The Mhd app reads shadow codes very well

its your water pump making that noise. However why its doing it on a cold car is beyond me. Reasons could extend to items like a bad temp sensor to a wiring fault.

Do you have a Jb in the car by any chance?

I wouldn't advise driving the car, but I'm based in Bedfordview and can help u read the codes using Mhd on my phone during office hours. We are approaching our financial year end so unfortunately, don't have the free time to come out to you

So this is from this morning with the car left overnight stone cold engine, just unlocked the car. opened door and bonnet:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="
" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I have been told the water pump circulates water even when engine cold when boot, door etc are opened (similar to the fuel pump priming) - is this correct?

I am also concerned about the flow of the water, does that seem fine?

Thanks for the advice guys - much appreciated will be getting the pump replaced, just finding out if anything else wrong lol
