Guys, how much does JB4 cost and what's the difference between JB4 vs installing software?

Off the top of my head I think JB4 is about 8k, JB4 has pre-programmed maps for the engine, a whole bunch of diagnostics tools and other cool features.
Many tuners, will do a back end flash, install a JB4 and then do their own custom map on map 6.
JB4 allows on the fly map switching which is awesome, for example, your "race map" might be designed for Octane booster or Ethanol, in order to maximize performance. If you're doing a road trip you most probably wont have access to ethanol for the entire trip, at which point you can switch to map 5, which is an autotuner map and gives you boost and timing advances based on the conditions, and fuel at that point in time.
Software is simply a single map that is programmed onto the cars DME, no multi-map, no diagnostic features. just a once off. if you change your hardware (downpipes, cooler, intake etc) and want to maximize the performance gain, you'll have to do software again. If you're mapped to run 40% ethanol, you better make sure you ALWAYS have 40% ethanol mix fuel at your disposal or at best your car will be pulling timing like crazy, at worst you'll be damaging your engine (engine knock).
Long story short, you want the JB4 (first step), a back end flash and custom tune for map 6 (if you plan on racing). Just getting the JB4 already gives you access to multiple maps, with more power and other cool features. You can do the backend flash at later stage as well as a custom map 6 at any point in time.
