sorry just had to say as has been said above:

E90 = sedan
E92 = current coupe
E93 = current cabrio (not new 3 series coming in 2011)

there is no 323i E92 (coupe) here , only E90 (sedan).

:. topic changed to E90

@Fuzzy - LOL

@ Donny - The main reason my wife chose the 323i over the 320i, is when she drove the 320i she felt it under powered. My wife came from a 1.4 polo and for her to say a 320i in under powered is :dropjaw: . I didnt even waist my time test driving the 320, my heart was set on a 335 :bawling:

With regards to the fuel consumption, i think the car just needs to be run in before the consumption starts to fall.

I am looking for a standard car with some power and relatively good looks.

Hmmm.... so you want an E90 320

Standard Car - CHECK!!!!
Some Power - Nope.... :(
Relatively Good Looks - Nope..... :(

Dude. Get the wool out of your eyes.... YOU PAY FOR MOTORPLAN!!!!!! Why do you think newer cars are so expensive... YOU ARE PAYING FOR THE MOTORPLAN!!!!!!

Also. You are paying an average for all the bad drivers out there. Your motorplan is structured like an insurance scheme in that the majority of people lose out so that the scheme can cater for the minority who claim lots and lots (like me!)

So don't buy into the illusion that a motorplan saves you money. What actually happens is that you are financing the motorplan at high interest rates compounded monthly so not only are you overpaying for repairs but you are paying bank fees AND interest on repairs which you might not even ever have done...

If you buy a good 2nd hand car out of motorplan you only pay for the repairs and maintenance you actually do and you only lose value in the car based no milleage and the devaluation of money over the period of ownership whereas in a new car you also lose the value of the Motorplan even if you never end up using it!!!

Also....

Revo, sleek lines?

Jesus dude... sleek like a frikking Chevrolet... The new Bimmers are SO not sleek bru. If the E90 is sleek then Jacob Zuma is a long distance runner.

matt.. Firstly, im talking e92
Big difference in the lines of e90 and e92
Your definition of sleek might be different to the rest of mankind

2ndly, we all know u hate the current 3 series, but thats your opinion.. Dumb as it may be :) .. And thats my opinion

The op wasnt asking about e46, or any other model.. So if you dnt feel like posting replies that are actually relevant to his questions, why bother?

Peace out

(I hope you realize that I just like stirring here with the E90 fraternity)

Ok so here's the thing...

In the Veedum world it's pretty much commonly accepted that the series 3 GTI's were the pits! The cars were overweight, underpowered and missed the point of what the cars had originally set out to be. That is an affordable driver's car.

Now let's look at Bimmer. "Pure Driving Pleasure"

I'm sorry, but the 90-series simply does NOT fit the basic premis of the BMW catch phrase. It is too slow, too heavy and frankly a boring design. Especially the interior which is REALLY just not the fun place the earlier models are. Compared to other cars it's still a great car, but compared to earlier (and PLEASE GOD) later 3-series it really is the equivalent BMW of the series 3 GTI.

So the reason I rant on about not buying one and either getting an E46 or waiting for the next 1 is because I truly believe that the current 3 series will go down as a failed series and that it will lose value DRASTICALLY in comparison to previous models because of all the flack it got. That said, in a few years the E90 series will probably also become a modifiers dream as it will become very cheap in relation to similar quality cars and as we have seen, with enough mods some of the top level 90 series cars can be bearable.

So my honest advice to the OP is to avoid the current shape and invest elsewhere... hell for the money he's thinking of spending I recon an audi or a 1-series would be a better purchase. I just think the small displacement current 3 series (anything below a 330) is a TOTAL waste of money.

I'll leave it at that

Matt, im going to agree with you on the interiors, im just not impressed. but for the rest, as revo says, tis a matter of personal taste :p

An E92 is a beauty, an E90 is ok but can still be "done up", an E90 LCI is nice... both E90's without a MSport package however doesnt look to hot.

BUT

Theres NO hope for the 1 series

From some angles it fools you into thinking it may be "ok" looking, but a better glance confirms you initial fears of the ugly duckling it really is.

Some people have made them much more pleasing to the eye, but they majority is rough around the edges.

Matt i agree with your comment on anything below the 330

Matt, point taken! I agree with you about the Golf 3 GTi...I owned one and it really was a donkey! I was hoping that the E90 with 115 Kw should be a little different.I was planning to buy the 320 with a sports pack to take care of the aesthetics or lack thereof!

I considered the Audi 2.0 T it has great economy figures and torque however I dont really fancy the front of the car!The sports pack on that is too expensive to use as a plaster!!

Total thread Jack but bang for buck my favorite car at the moment is the new 6Liter Chevy Lumina... OMG that car has character (note that I did not say hot, sexy, good design, I said CHARACTER)

What I love about it is the combination of that delicious V8 sound (eat your heart out M3) and the unmistakably masculine design. And the bad boy comes in at around R 420k with trimmings... also with a cheap charger upgrade you are putting out over 300kw and over 600nm of torque... that's a car of around R500k all in that can eat cars costing 300k more for breakfast

nice

To answer your question, yes the 323i will be heavier on petrol. But the 320 will be heavier than the 320. Simply, power to weight ratio!

My in-laws had a e90 323i A Msport. Down in durbs they struggled to get 500km on the tank.

My e46 330i Manual gets 600km on a tank in jhb.

I would also say, rather go for a e46 but you want something with mplan, look for a 325i or 330i. Consumption, well, depends how you drive...

YOH... talk abt thread jacking... Dude its a tought choice, but if fuel consumption is a big issue then the 320i should win in town driving, everyone told me the fuel was gonna kill me when i was buying my 335i, fuel consumption depends alot on your driving style!! i get abt 9l-10l/100km in town driving, im currently using a 1.3lt corolla (brand new) as a curtesy car and it shows 7l/100km.... its the most annoying/boring thing! the 335i is soooo worth the 2l/100km extra fuel, same way you could justify the performance of a 323i Vs 320i...
Take your time, do the math and best of luck..

Oh yeah and dont bother with an E46.... its just plain OLD!:)

I doubt all of them would be boosted.

They allready have a headache of note trying to prevent the N54 guys from going with aftermarket tunes. Can you imagine of their whole line-up was boosted...lol

CHAOS

I think they tested the market with the N54... still the best bang for buck currently on offer..

Have you been smoking crack for a long time or did you just get into it recently?
