Hi everybody.I am in the process of buying an E92 2010 320i and I am not sure wether to consider the 323 since it is more powerful. What is the real consumption figures for the 323? is it 8.4 as claimed?

I am also concerned about buying the new "facelifted" 3 series and then the next generation arrives next year??

Any advice?

AFAIK the 320i is a 4cyl engine & the 323i is a 6cyl. So my Opinion go for the 323i.

In the E46 cars, the 318i facelift was the 2litre 4 cyl engine. This car is very economical on the open road but not that economical in towen driving. We had a E46 325i Touring and it gave better in town consumption than the 318i..

So I would go for the 323i instead of the 320i

do not buy the 4 cylinder... you will bevery disappointed
the e46 320i was much better

also, if you're gonna worry about facelift and next generation, then you're never gonna buy a 3 series, coz they makes changes every few years (sometimes it feels like every year)

Not sure if anyone noticed all the 3 series (e90, e92, e93) and 1 series now have the big mirrors fitted

The e92 2010 model is currently exactly the same as the 2007, except for the mirrors

I know that the E90 320s have a downgraded motor compared to the E46,about 10Kw less however my concern is with the fuel consumption on the 323 which is quoted at 8.4l/100Km.Are these figures quoted at 100 Km/h? Can anyone vouch for these figures with around 50% of town driving and 50% of freeway driving.

Do you think it will make better economical sense to buy the E92 secondand as opposed to brand new?

I am also considering the 18s...any bad experience with frequent pothole damage considering the 35 profile?

my opinion:
if u buy new, you are gonna take a bigger knock when selling, as opposed to buying used

If consumption is a big concern, then take the 1 that has better figures.. I just think you will enjoy the 6 cylinder more.
Whats the difference in consumption between the 2 models?

About the wheels.. I speak under correction, but dnt think bmw fits 35 profiles as stock.. Probably 40.

Hi Revo, the claimed figures for the 320 is 7.9 and the 323 is 8.4.This has a significant different if you do alot of town runs. The rear tyres are definitely 255/35.I checked them about twenty times already since there is not much rubber between the ground and the rim!

Not sure if this helps but, my wife bought a new 2010 323i (A) last week thursday, with just over half a tank petrol, light came on and she filled up again yesterday. She works 5 km from her work. :dropjaw:

I did give it a little stick on the highway over the weekend, not sure if that helped the consumption. :)

The one question that should be asked here is why the hell would you want to buy an E90/1/2/3/4/5 when you can buy an E46 for the same money which will be a better car and will lose less value...

I don't get this new new new thing I mean come on .... have the roads been upgraded since they designed the E30, 36 or 46???? Nope... so why spend all that money on a new car which:

a) WILL lose more value - you lose money
b) WILL be slower since your 323 budget would buy you a 325 or 330 - you lose races
c) WILL pull less pussy, since everyone knows chicks prefer the E46 - you lose sex
d) WILL look fugly, since the E90 series simply isn't as good looking as the oldies - you lose face
e) WILL be replaced in 20 months time - you double lose out

So... either spend too much money on a slow, overpriced, ugly, unsexy, soon to be replaced 3 series which will go down in history as the worst 3 to be produced (I'll put money on this!) or spend you bucks on a faster, better looking car which is a better investment and will pull more pussy.

I suppose the question is... do you wanna be a loser? huh? do ya?

nice one matt.....i tend to agree with him.e46 is much more sexy and you will be able to do so much more mods to it.the newer the cars are getting the harder they become to tune.

guys... obviously Donny is not looking for a car to mod

and doesn't want to buy an old design :)

so move along....

Donny - I think you should go with the 320 as it seems to meet your requirements more than the 323
Although I would say go with the 323 (since these are the only 2 models you are considering)

You are absolutely correct Revo! I am looking for a standard car with some power and relatively good looks. The E46 does look good however I need something with low milage that I can keep until the motorplan expires.

I most probably will be very annoyed when the new generation arrives at the end of 2011!!! Judging from Crewzer's response I am definitely not going to buy the 323!! I think the 115 Kw 320 with 18s will have to suffice.

good luck
nothing we can do about new models being released... the car will not look dated when it's released though
the e92 has very sleek lines

Good luck every car gets old some time or another, the 320i don't have some power it has almost no power :)

I would also go with the 323 but get the manual it will help with the fuel consumtion.
