Wayne aka Silverbird also had a similar issue with his previous 320d . We replaced the engine mounts and it was fine. He sourced the parts from goldwagon at the time.

Hi Guys, quick update from my side that may help shed some light on this issue. Friend of mine had the same problem on his E90 LCI 320D and got it sorted last week.

Had immense vibration between 1500 and 2500 rpm, other than that no issues at all. Vibration got worse over time until it felt like something was gonna jump at you through the floor panels. He had everything mentioned replaced, this includes gearbox mounts, engine mounts, guibo, carrier bearing and dampener pulley, problem persisted. After replacing the carrier bearing it got a bit better though but vibration was still there. Eventually he had the car to another mechanic which identified the universal joint at the carrier bearing as the culprit. From a quick glance it looked fine, it could move and flex once removed, but not as much it should (or so the mechanic said), felt like it had very limited movement, almost like it was seizing up. Also, the brand new carrier bearing was already damaged badly again when they removed the prop.

Long story short, sourced another prop shaft from a low mileage wreck, replaced carrier bearing again and problem solved. Driving like new again. The universal also seems to be a lot more flexible than the one removed.

Might be worth a shot looking at.

@Nikil - i saw your post late, cause i bought those items and installed it that weekend.

Just an update for people who have the same/similar problem - or might have it in the future...lol.

I changed the gearbox mounts and the prop-shaft center bearing. There was no change. Car still rides the same.

i bought the engine mounts from GW, but i never install it to date. No time. After seeing what i seen with gbox mounts and propshaft center bearing, i have no fauth that the negine mounts will solve the problem. The car seems to be have been well looked aftered.

Note : The Gbox mounts from GW are not quality in my opinion, they where very soft and bend easily with your hand, where as the original bmw ones where quite firm.

Thanks guys!
Have you gotten the engine mounts inspected? I don't understand why you replaced the parts that were verified to be in decent condition and expected it to resolve your issue?
Hi Kyle

I only saw Nikhils post after i installed those items (that he said it looks good).. I was not sure myself(at the time) that it looked good on the outside, but the actual item was actual worn or not, as you know rubber looks its rigidity over time. And i didnt want to strip and then buy items, i just bought it first, stripped and installed. And yes, i was a bit hasty.

How do you inspect those engine mounts? from underneath, you cant really see them? I Did try to have a look.

I just went on a general consensus on what the guys where saying on the forum.

The rubber in the mounting usually collapses a few mm with age over time , which causes more vibration to travel through the mounting and the subframe.

I don’t have a good pic side by side with an E90 mount to show u old vs new and how they collapse but here’s Z4 mounts that I changed out . The middle one is new , and the sides ones are what I removed . I took this pic to show the owner how much the mounts collapse over time. The e90 mounts also collapse over time .

Nice illustration and easier to understand. Thanks!

Its definitely harder(more difficult) to see this from the outside.
