e90 using too much oil

My engine has been sounding a bit louder than normal in the morning and I have also been noticing oil drops in the garage. I took the car to my usual mechanic and he had a look and said gearbox samp (spelling) was the problem, so he changed it and told me the valve stamp seals also needs to be change, which i am going to be doing in the next three weeks.

The problem i am facing now is the car is using lot of oil off late, i have to top up oil every 2 weeks. If i check where i park the car at home/work i dont see any drops to show some leakages, i wonder where the oil is going...

is this normal.. :thumbdo:

The car in question is a 06 E90 320i with 124k on the clock...

The E90's after 100k genreally start using oil, but not that much!!

have you checked the oil sump? tappid gasket? any visable oil around the motor? is the car smoking?

Hi. I'm not sure. But if valve stem seals needs changing maybe the car is burning the oil. Is it smoking. If so then its burning the oil.

looks like most of the 320i's is using abit of oil, I am driving a e46 320i and I also need to top up oil (500ml) every month and I know a guy that actulay sold his 320i because it was also using abit of oil

I would take the car in and have a proper mech look at it. Take it to Gizmo for inspection and he will point you in the right direction. At this point we can only speculate but i can tell you its not supposed to use that amount of oil. i have never had to top up on the diesel since i bought it. i know its not the same as petrol. and the car has 140k km on the clock.

The e90 is solid build cars and reliable if it s using or leaking oil there is something wrong.

Have it checked out.

depending how bad you valve stem seals are you might see a littler smoke on cold start or under heavy load.

In your owners manual it should say something in the line of

Oil consumption: 100ml-500ml/1000km
(Just an example)
Although this is for a new vehicle. What sort of mileage are u putting on her weekly?

Although my 95 325i with 250k uses very little oil, and she sees the red line on a daily basis. I top up with less than a pint between oil changes.

Just my 2c.
