E90 Space saver spare wheel kit/Mobility Kit

Hi All,

I'm about to buy a mobility kit from a guy. He says it includes the compressor and sealant. It does not include a spare wheel. Does this come with my car? I have an E90 330i ? I had a look in the boot but I didn't open any panels. I just want to know as I would like to carry one around if I don't have one.

AFAIK, later model E90's came with the mobility kit (compressor + sealant). Not sure if this was a dealer specific initiative or factory fitted. Look at the panel under the carpet - that's where it normally sits.

The spare wheel kit is not the mobility kit.

Depending on the price, the compressor and sealant is a must to have in any car whether normal tyres or RFTs. Take it if price and quality is good.

Personally, I would buy a decent MotoQuip mini air compressor, a can of goo, and for that matter one of those puncture kits. Also look at getting a good quality pressure gauge. This will keep you mobile in most cases, and since you have a proper durable mini air compressor you can check and adjust your tyre pressures yourself (I don't trust filling station gauges).

For better peace of mind the actual space-saver spare wheel is the way to go, but does take up valuable space in the boot.

I was really lucky, found mine on gumtree and paid R1500 for it - guy advertised an hour or so before I saw the advert!

Was actually looking on the gum on Friday, but nothing for the moment - will keep an eye out for you. Might also be worth checking the scrapyards as mentioned above - the spare wheel is the critical part!

Not sure how much your are paying for this from some guy, got mine from Cedar Isle for just over R600

As mentioned before, the mobility kit consists of sealant and compressor, the sparewheel kit consists of biscuit alloy sparewheel, tools, jack, cover and straps

Also

A spare wheel kit was offered in Australia which house the spare wheel in the floor, don't know how come they never offered it here, but think it is now discontinued. It raises the floor of the trunk so the space is reduced.

BMW has devised a tidy and secure solution to
carrying an emergency replacement wheel in the
luggage compartment of the BMW 3 Series
Sedan.
All BMW 3 Series Sedans (except M3) are fitted
with run flat safety tyres as standard.
These highly developed tyres are capable of
covering around 250 km at up to 80 km/h with
any or all of these tyres fully or partially deflated.
They obviate the need to change a punctured
wheel at the roadside or when the driver is within
easy reach of a BMW dealer or tyre shop.
However, BMW recognises that some drivers like
to have the physical security of an emergency
spare wheel in the boot.
In order to accommodate the emergency spare
wheel and meet the requirements of this small
number of customers, BMW has devised a neat
and tidy underfloor storage solution that delivers
a flat loading floor for maximum utility.
The emergency spare wheel is hidden under a
flip-up floor panel in the boot. For greatest visual
harmony, the panel is finished in the same
material as the boot lining.
A luggage securing net is set into the upper face
of the floor panel to hold objects such as bags or
shopping in place, while six tie-down eyelets are
also available to restrain larger items.
The emergency space wheel, luggage
compartment floor, luggage net and wheel brace
and jack are available as a kit from all BMW
dealers around Australia.
The emergency spare wheel for 320i and 323i
models is a steel rim, while an alloy rim is
available for all models (except M3).
The emergency space wheel is a space-saver
design, which should be driven on at no more
than 80 km/h. It is intended only to provide
mobility as far as the nearest BMW Service point.
This emergency spare wheel should be replaced

How much will this set you back? I want to get one myself

I got it last week from BMW Sandton Auto for R2700 Excl VAT. Its 125/80R17 continental tire and my dealer said it will fit 18" and 19". My car came with 19" tires.

The cost:

- Tire plus carry bag is R2700
- The whole kit (tire, carry bags, jack, gloves, spanner) R3800
- Jack Kit alone (Jack, gloves, spanner etc) R950

Got Tyre and rim from Scrapyard never used R1500
Bag from agents R350
Jack from Checkers Hyper and the fitting head fits exactly in the car jacking point(very important to check this). R90
Wheel spanner from Middas or checkers was R60

Total of it all was R2000 :bravo:

I'm looking to get a space saver wheel. I am currently running 16" wheels and was told that I need to get a 17" space saver.
Would any 5 stud 17" wheel fit on my car or do I need to look for something specific?

16" rim should be able to use OEM steel space saver.

So I finally got a space saver rim. I also picked up a mini air compressor and some Tyre Weld for just in case.
I already had a new jack and spanner. I don't have gloves but I always keep some wet wipes in the car
I was thinking about getting one of this tyre repair kits also so I can fix any punctures myself when its not possible to get to a repair place
