E90 Pre Facelift Oil Level Warning

Hi all,

So yesterday afternoon and this morning, whilst driving the car for a while I get a little warning triangle next to the odometer. do the check and see that its an oil level warning.

CC ID-27 = Low Oil Level.

I checked the oil level after park off for 2 hours, and again this morning before start up. both times the car was parked on a level surface, and both times the dipstick indicated that the oil level was perfect.

I suspect that its the oil level sensor. Is this an easy fix.

Also, when i did a service recently, I was advised to do an engine flush / desludge as the suplhur causes a gel like layer to form in the sump which is not good. I told them not to do this, but now am wondering if maybe I should get it done, along with another oil change. Mind you, this is less than 1000km after the recent service.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

regards.

You have a dipstick?

The diesels still have a physical dipstick unlike the petrol E90's...

Never knew that - thanx:thumbs:

No problem! Wish they would have done the same with the petrol E90 engines!! :nonono:

If they did it would have probably increased the price by 10k LOL I'm glad my e46 has a dipstick because my sensor is on the fritz, comes on for 15 seconds when I start the car then goes off, the oil level is fine however.

in my car, When the car starts and drives for a lil while, No problems and no signs of low oil level.

after a lil more driving, I get that telltale triangle with the exclamation mark on it.

I check the oil level every morning and afternoon before I leave work. Oil level is perfect.

does anyone here know the approximate cost to get this sorted. I really dont like warning lights on in my car. it drives me nuts.

Hi Xmax,

not a simple fix I'm afraid, I new sender cost approx R2500.00 supply only. The sender fits in your sump and so you will have to drain the oil etc to replace it.

have the same issue on mine but goes away in 10 seconds.

I wonder how easy this is to replace - might be a DIY to save on labour costs. Then makes sense to do this when needing to change oil...

If it is anything like it on the e46 then it should not be that difficult to do, drain oil, unbolt remove and replace. Isn't there aftermarket ones available? R2.5k seems really steep.
