E90 pre facelift and lci

Can some one please explain to me what the differences are between a 2008 E90 330d Auto and a 2008 E90 lci 330d Auto. Did they change the engine and gearbox, suspension, dash, front and rear lights, etc., and by how much ( i mean, did the engine/gearbox change by much?, etc.?) Info will be much appreciated. Thanks!

as far as i know it was cosmetic changes to the body

i think engine and gearbox are the same,unless they did a soft ware upgrade

Suspension is slightly different, afaik, rear axel is 8mm wider.

Probably just SW...

Although engine and turbo have different part numbers so who knows.

engine is different not just software
pre lci is 160kw and 480nm
post lci is 180kw 520nm

but lci only came out late 2009 not 2008
different lights and bonnet and interior little different also

I think i read some where that the engine was changed from steel to magnesium or aluminium or visa versa. Also, the engine puts out more as was said by Dajee. Thanks anyway, am looking at 2008 330d pre facelift.

pre lci is 160kw and 480nm
post lci is 180kw 520nm

but lci only came out late 2009 not 2008
different lights and bonnet and interior little different also

Different motor. Pre m57 lci n57. Open the both bonnets and you will see almost everything is placed differently. I think the lci had a bigger ic as well.

What month was your car assembled in Collin ?

dont know but m/p expires end july

this is true, my Individual was a late November 2008 car, had all lci bits inside and had the 115kw/200nm engine that the lci had, my car was eveb identified as lci, but per-facelift spec...:thumbs:

Lots of mixed information.

BMW have a 6 year cycle on their cars before they phase in the new generation.

3 series

E46 started production in 1999 and lasted until 2005
E90 2006 to 2012 etc...

And every 3 years they have a series revision update or LCI.

On the E90 they also included a major change under the bonnet. The engine changed to the much newer N57 generation which is still used in the F30 bmw's.

The entire engine bay layout has changed, the block is no longer cast iron, more lightweight, more fuel efficient, more powerful, better heat dissapation New intake manifold, new intercooler design and location, new air filter design and location, new DDE DME LCM etc... The list is very long.

The drivetrain I'm not sure of.

Cosmetics have already been mentioned. Bonnet headlights, tail lights including LED design and suspension.

In short there is a huge price gap between them but understandably so.

Is it worth it?

In my opinion yes. The LCI is a much improved car over the pre-LCI.

Would I buy one?

No, because the M57 has lived a much longer life and has received many updates and is very tunable and also found very reliable over the years. And it's still a lot of car for very little money

Bought 6/2008 E90 330 pre lci with M57N2 motor. Sticker on door jamb is torn off so do no know the specs of the engine but assume it is the 160kw/480nm motor.
