Hi Fanatics I an n46 engine, pre face lift, engine is stuffed. Not sure whether to redo the engine or replace it with a second hand one.

What would be a guestamate cost be if I went either way, please guys some advice/guidance will be highly appreciated, what's the pros and cons?

Would a face lift engine work on this car?

If you are going to redo it yourself you will need to borrow the VANOS timing tools and potentially the Valvetronic Jig. If you want to buy your own tools figure on spending anything from R3,000 to R6,000.

Other than that the parts are pretty cheap for these motors.

A used engine is going to cost R15,000 and up depending on mileage and history.

Hi

when you stuffed stuffed, do you mean bearings, smoking, no compression?

Hi, if the con-rod snapped then yes, it probably got a hole in the block as well so yes, it would be stuffed. Make sure that if you get a engine it is the same as the one that was in, to avoid any issues, they look similar but there may be sensor and/or wiring issues if not the same.

Cheers

John
