Hi Gents

Last week my wifes e90 323i had an oil leak, took to the mechanic and he said it was a leaking tappet cover gasket.

The repair was done and I drove the car home, about 600m. Did not notice any issues. That was Thursday.

On Saturday we decided to use her car and started it up, the car began to shake bad, idle was bad, tried to rev the car a little and it revved badly.

No CEL came on. Any ideas what the issue could be? I will be taking the car back. Any suggestions on the issue

Thank you

Check the ignition coils, may not be tightly fitted. Had exactly the same issue when I did my valve cover gasket.

That was my guess, going to remove the cover and check them out

Had exactly the same issues with my neighbour's 2005 E90 323i after tappet cover gasket replacement. According to the codes it was the solenoid valves. After replacement no better. Eventually the owner took the car to Helderview BMW where it spent about two weeks. They could not find the problem. Cost him R5k but when he got the car back it was running fine (although they could not say what was wrong, they did replace a spring or something on the vanos system which they claim was a common problem)?? He got rid of the car soon after that.

Update

So Phypher13 came over today to help read the codes. Turned out to be the outlet vanos solenoid. We pulled both solenoids and gave them a clean. Fitted them back in, cleared the codes. First time startup no issues. I drove the car to gym and back home, no problem.

Thanks to my brother Shyane for coming to the rescue.

Thank you to DannyBoyOpc for also offering assistance while Shyane was away.
