Hey guys
As the title suggests, I would appreciate any knowledgeable input if anyone has such to offer.
We have a E90 320i and the following gremlins popped up after a family member decided to cross over a flooded low-laying bridge to get home.
When he returned home, about 5 or so km of slow-driving horrific-road-conditions driving, the car threw out 2 new error icons when he turned off the car. The first was for the fog lights up front, the other a yellow "Check Engine" light.
According to the manual that comes with the car, the icon also means the car has reduced power to prevent further damage, however - in the VERY limited time I spent driving the car (i.e. not really trying to test it) nothing seemed noticeably different.
After researching how to find out what error code I can retrieve without an OBD machine, I got CCID-29 - which didn't help much. Subsequently, having only the BMW available, I've used it twice to town, driving slowly and conservatively (partly because it was empty lol) but couldn't identify anything being different. Eventually I drove home in a more spirited fashion with some fuel in the car and still could not detect any lack or reduction of power at all.
My brother has one of those consumer OBD gadgets you can get nowadays, which he ran on the BMW. It reported 5 codes as follows:
CURRENT FAULT:
P2098 - Powertrain - Post Catalyst Fuel System To Lean bank2
P2096 - Powertrain - Post Catalyst Trim System To Lean bank 1
PENDING FAULT:
P1062 - Powertrain
B2AAA - Body
FAULT LOGGED:
P2503 - Powertrain - Charging System Voltage Low
***
So I started looking up the error codes online, however my technical and mechanical knowledge is non-existent. I figured if I created a post here indicating what happened and what the codes were etc. someone might have a better idea on what to have checked out while money is an issue right now.
In the meantime, we've opted to clear the error and wait to see if it returns. Afterwards I decided to take the car for a spin to see how she runs and whether the error light comes back. I'd read on some or other page odd changes in the rev's when the car is idle with the aircon off vs. on. Another had noted issues if revving past 4000rpm. I decided to test our BMW against the above info and had no issues - not with high revs, inconsistent idling rev's, lack of power - all with and without the aircon turned on.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Any advice, dos and don'ts? Total repair costs estimations (no warranty - cash only) - I am based in the East Rand. I'd appreciate any help. Oh - if there's a costly repair involved related to this - how long/far can the car still be safely driven and used?
I'm praying this was a false alarm - would love to know how likely the odds are on my side here! :bin:
