E90 Eating oil

Can only think it must be an oil leak, or for it to be 'using' this amount of oil there should be smoke I would think - have someone follow behind you and drive up and down some hills etc.

I don't agree with the performance drop when cold, although I always nurse a cold car until warm, but I gather you are talking about a significant drop of power and then having to restart the engine...

These engines are known to use oil, but to what extent is the question. When I first got my 330i it was on the 50% mark and by the time it was asking for a litre top up it had done 6500 km from the previous service. The next time it asked for a litre was 8100 km later and then soon after the car went in for its last service. Have done over 5000 km and it was still sitting on the max level, then at around 5500 km it went down to 75%, so not too bad at the moment.

I think valve cover gasket and heat exchanger gaskets are usually the cause for oil leaks, so have that checked out too...

I have booked the car in at BMW next week monday. they said they need a few days to do the test.

The last time they said no oil leaks were found. I have had someone drive behind me. Even if i floor it there is no smoke.

The E90's do use oil but there is something wrong in your case here. I did my oil service early this year and the oil is sitting at half way below max this week.

You wont be able to see any oil on the floor, there's covers under the entire car. The heat exchange gasket is one culprit to look at.

1000km and needs 1L oil already is suspect.

Plus, no worrying about your wheels getting scratched (not that they would need to go near them ultimately)!!

i am quiet irritated....

I got my Car back from BMW. They did the leak and compression test and found nothing. They rest values and so on and said it will be fine...If it does the same again then i must bring it back...

i sent a complaint to BMW SA. They called me back and said according to them my car specifically is supposed to need a 1lt topup every 1500km....

WTF? So assuming the service interval is 25k, how many litres is that between services.

Explained that i have a 323i that uses no oil they tell me no 2 cars are alike even if they are the same model...

Is it just bullshit to me or am i mistaken?

what they say makes sense ito the cars not alike although the same models.

Whats baffling me is that they can not find whats eating the oil ? :fencelook: You need to keep a close eye on it . I would also be worried.

Eish i dont know what to do now....

Ill have to just wait and see until i drive another 1000 odd km and monitor the oil usage.

How the hell do you prove BMW wrong.....

I never had a car that needed so much oil.....It makes no sense to me....

The chic that called said that if it says +1 it needs another 1 litre of oil and its nothing to worry about as there is still another 5 litres still in the engine......

She was quiet rude when she told me that the engine runs on oil so how can i say its not supposed to use oil....Basically telling me i know jack so shut up...
