E90 does not start

My first problem with the car.

Since I bought the car, once in a while I will have issues with the car not starting. When I push the start button the car will switch on, pressing the start button again the car will switch off again. After pressing the button a couple off times the clutch message will show up and then start normally.

Since yesterday it got worse, I have to switch car on and off a couple of times before it will attempt the start the engine. Dont think it is battery, because the car starts easy as soon as the clutch pedal comes up. Also no errors on Inpa.

Any idea?

Possibly a faulty ELV (electronic steering lock) :fencelook:

Maybe the clutch pedal switch? Do you get any error messages on the cluster when it does not want to start? My E90 had the faulty steering lock issue and it would show a steering lock error symbol since it was not unlocking the steering wheel and preventing the engine from starting. But if the clutch switch is not working I reckon it will just not let the engine start even though you have the pedal depressed...

I have not encountered anything like this. Thanks far all the inputs as this will be the first place to look when same situation is encountered

No errors and not clutch switch, on inpa I can see the clutch switch activate and de-activate like it should be.

Did allot of googeling and can not find anything. Maybe a ground wire that is not making good contact, going to check all the wires tomorrow.

Not sure if INPA can show this switch in operation, that is, see if it can see when the pedal is depressed or not - then repeat until you can see if not pick up that the pedal is depressed. This is a long shot assuming that INPA can do this - have no idea...

Another thing that one could try is to code the system to not rely on the clutch pedal having to be depressed and see if this changes anything.

Inpa shows when clutch is pressed or depressed ( not sure if it gets the info from the switch or somewhere else).

The code not to rely on pedal will be nice to have even if the switch is not faulty, will google to get the details on doing this.

I really must get into INPA and learn how to use it!

Speak to NavZ on the forum - he has coded his E90 to do this and loads of other things!
