E90 DISA: New or rebuild

Hi guys, I can hear a rattle coming from the top DISA flap and heard stories of it breaking and causing serious damage to the engine. I scanned and didn't pick up any error codes but still think its a problem.

Has anyone bought the rebuilt kits and repaired them yourself or should I fork out about R5k each for two new ones?

This is for my E90 330i

Thanks!

Hi, usually how sure are you it's the disa? It usually gives an error. I replaced both of mine last year. It's quite an expense yeah.

Rather check to make sure. The external one is easy to get to shouldn't be a problem for that one.

I just scanned again, had some issues with Inpa after changing to Win10. Fault code is 2AAB, points to the larger disa. Will start here

So I tackled this today, took a chance and bought the larger first stage disa without inspecting first.

It was defective, the flap in the disa was completely loose. The gear that controls the flap is definitely worn out or broken inside. Just glad nothing broke off to get stuck in the engine . The spine holding the flap is metal so not sure if this really is as bad as I’ve read.

So if you have code 2AAB replace the large disa. The second stage smaller disa (error code 2AAC) only gets activated at high rpm so there should be a lower chance of failure if you drive like an old lady.
