e90 Boot slams closed

Hi All!
The last couple of years the boot of my 320d e90 has to be closed by slowly lowering it, otherwise it just falls like a dead weight. I thought it was the gas struts and had them replaced today without it making any difference!

Am I missing something? Is there some other adjustment so I don't lose my fingers if I accidentally drop the boot?

Many thanks in advance!

What brand of struts did you use? Many of the aftermarket ones are worse than 10 year old originals...

Use Stabilus or OEM.

Make sure the load rating is correct. Usually have a NM marking somewhere on it.

I got a set of Meyle boot struts from Sean(Moranor) for my e34 and they work awesome and not crazy expensive.
Felt the weight of the boot without any struts at all, dam almost killed myself.

Checked in market. Most are Topran.
But you can get Gabriel boot shock, quite expensive.
Stalibus is very hard to find and overpriced.

Try these guys:

www.liftfill.co.za

They come to you and offer a 2yr gaurantee.

I've used them twice for bonnet and boot shocks.

That makes life easy!
Thanks

Any idea what's their pricing like. I need a set for my E39 at some point - it's not too bad yet, but gradually getting worse over the months.

Hi guys!
I have no idea what stuts these are, I asked Ross Duncan to replace them.
All I see on them are warnings not to open them up, and
370mm
0320N

I guess that is the size and force they apply.
I can't seem to find what the recommended strut specs should be, are these values correct?

Hi Again! So I took the car back to Ross, and they tried another after market set, which again failed. They then replaced with the OEM version and it works perfectly!

So, thanks for all the advice, you guys were right, it was the inferior struts....

Hi,

Didn't read the entire thread - but have you checked the orientation of the struts once replaced? When the boot is open, the oil chamber (thick side) should be on the lid side / at the top and the empty arm (thin side) at the bottom / towards the body of the car.

Hope this helps.
