E90 Auto Gearbox

Hi Guys

I have just recently become a BMW owner. Bought a 2006/2007 325i Auto. Real good condition. Car has 96000km on the clock. The dealership that I bough her at don't really know too much about BMW and I have some questions. A couple days ago we felt something that didn't seem right. When you are coasting at say 50/60km/h and you put your foot down just a little to speed up a bit the car jerks harshly twice until it gears down to accelerate. This doesn't seem normal at all so I want to know if anyone has some ideas before I take it back to the dealership to get it looked at.

Secondly do these motors have cam belts or chains?
Thirdly can I remove the catalytic converter without any side effects?

I just did the reset and drove around the block and it feels ok. I will feel the drive later when I leave again and monitor it. the plugs were replaced a week about 2 weeks ago.

They have Cam Chains so don't worry about replacing them.

You can remove the cats however I think you would need to software to map out the O2 sensors they will affect. Otherwise you will run rich which has it's own set of downsides. (Alternatively you can fit cat foolers)

It may not be your gearbox, it could be your spark plugs. Does it feel like an engine misfire. When were the plugs changed?

You can reset the gearbox adaption settings yourself.

Maybe that would help. If not have the codes look at and take it back to the dealership

The procedure that is described in the thread that you quoted does not reset the gearbox adaptations. It just resets the drive-by-wire throttle adaptation. Read post #35 of that thread carefully.

You need to be connected to the car's OBDII port with INPA in order to reset the gearbox adaptation values properly, just like ZF does when they service the gearbox. There is also a detailed procedure required after the reset to allow the gearbox to find new adaptation values for the clutch packs and solenoids.

I would also not recommend that the gearbox adaptations be reset without changing the gearbox oil & filter, it serves no purpose unless the oil is changed.

Hi Buddy

Did it make a difference?

It almost felt like it but yesterday again, when your chilling and coating slow and you press down a little to speed up it feels like a very harsh gear change to a lower gear. and its got this double jerk.

I repeat, the throttle-down-for-30sec procedure does not reset the gearbox adaptations.

You should get the gearbox oil & filter changed out, preferably at ZF in Germiston. They will properly reset the adaptations with INPA which is mandatory after a gearbox oil change.

It will be money well spent.
