E90 Auto Gearbox questions

How decent are the E90 6-speed automatic gearboxes? Do they still have the same reliability issues as earlier BMW's?

Reason for me asking is that I'm considering chipping my 330d. Mileage is on 118K KM and I'll probably keep the car until it hits about 150/160K KM and the primary weak point with chipping is the gearbox. Standard torque is already fairly high (close to 500NM), so chipping will take it to about 100NM more and I'm a bit concerned about how the box will handle it.

Comments, suggestions and opinions please ....

Also, anyone have issues with E90 auto gearboxes on higher mileage cars?

My advice, dont do it

Nm of the motor is actually already above the rated torque for the gearbox, which means, its going to kill it.

Simple fact, torque kills auto gearboxes, thus.....

reason why i own a manual.

My brother bust his e90 330i geabox just by switching to sport mode too often... not even manual mode...
They put 2 gearboxes on his car so far.... 1 reconditioned 1 brandnew.

Those gearboxes arent strong.

The box in that car is the GA6HP26, rated for 600Nm (I think it might have a higher rating for diesels, though - long story). They do have their flaws, but I don't think power capacity is one of them. In the end it is up to you. I think the turbo might be a bigger point of concern, though.
