i have the X5 3.0d .. i do understand the 33od is faster as its a lighter car and has some sort of aerodynamics, not like the X5

but i remeber my e46 330i gave me no crap and i drove that car everyday with no issues for 3 and a half years...

im a liitle tired with diesels at the moment.. feel like a change :=):

I also had a X5 3.0d - the same motor in a 330d is something else.

Had 2 E46 330i's. Was in a similar situation considering the E90 330i - somehow, the E90 330i felt too "sterile". No disrespect to anyone that has one, but the transition from E46 to E90 somehow toned the car down too much, especially that straight 6 exhaust note.

The E90 330i is still a good car though. I think it just got overshadowed by the 330d/335i.

If you're after exhaust tone, it is a no brainer!

Yep, V8 :praise:

Sorry for a mild hijack...

Is your 4.8 X5 exhaust fairly quiet like that of the E60? Mine was very tame until i decatted. The previous shape X5 4.8is had a major roar.

By the way, I wasnt hinting at Ryan to get a V8:=):

Have not driven the previous 4.8is to compare. However, the exhaust note on my car is a bit tame though. Tempted to decat, but for now going to leave it as is as the car is still under MP.

BTW, I think the E53 4.8is had a Brabus exhaust on it as standard.

While you probably have no desire to hear this my 320d is running at 7lt/100kms mixed cycle.

Useless?.............annoying?........I know, but I like to share.

Diesel FTMFW!!!!!

i had a 2007 320d .... so i know those cars well

i prefer the 6 cylinder bmw engines ... nothing beats the sound of a 6cylinder petrol compared to a 4 cylinder diesel...
That one I will give you.

As a side note..........Does anyone know how to open the fuel flap on my car, its been so long since I filled up that I have forgotten, and I might need to fill up some time next week:ty:

With regards to fuel consumption, if you use the car everyday like me then look at 12-14 l/100km for urban driving. But that's just my hooligan driving style, coupled to a Auto box box that has adapted to my driving style, it does tend to drop down an extra gear time to time when you require just a little acceleration which negatively affects the fuel consumption. But then again i'm talking about driving in and around town. If you happen to cover a decent amount mileage a day, meaning 60-80% on the freeway then look at around 10l/100km.

However on longer trips look at a consumption figure of about 8 l/100km, maybe even lower depending on the amount of people and luggage you carrying.

Having owned/own both e46 and e90, I can tell you that the e46 does have a better tone at start up and idle. But that's where it ends. The e46 gets too flat in tone at higher revs. The e90 just sounds so much sweeter throughout the rev range, especially that induction roar.

Looks like everyone's avoiding your question. I bought myself a 2006 330i 2 weeks ago, and boy am I glad i didn't go for diesel. I love the traditional 6-cyl at 7000rpm. I drove from Polokwane to Sandton and back today, got avg consumption of 12km/l and that includes the city driving in Gauteng.. last week i drove from Pretoria to Polokwane and got 12.8km/l - both trips was with air-con. I strongly feel that the 330i can avg 13.5km @120km/h .. i drove avg of 130km/h today

In town i got between 8.4 - 9km/l so far. Much better than my 325i that gave me 7km/l. The 330i is quick, i understand the Nm on 330d is massive BUT my dear friends i don't want to be there the day the turbo / injectors goes BOEM BOEM! its proven that the petrol works out cheaper, and in my opinion the 330d cant beat 330i on acceleration.. please youtube it.
this video is from 100- 200km/h.. the diesel is ''suppose'' to win.. but it doesnt

I call it BS. Off the line, yes, a well launched 330i might be faster, but above 60 or so, there is no way a 330i will keep up with the 330d for tractability.

Here's the official E90 stats from the brochure (LCI) for stock cars of course.

80 to 120 in 4th/5th
330i: 6.6/8.2
330d: 4.8/6.1
335i: 5.3/6.3

Bud, the 330d rivals the M3 for tractability - it will murder the 330i, especially at altitude.

That said a 330i is a brilliant car in its own right.

I've been driving my E90 330i for about 3 weeks now. Been pushing it to get a feel for the car (it is new after all) and i get 12l/100km. Manual, mixed driving. I'm guessing I could get 10 if I was gentle

As for the noise, my E46 has better tone at start up and idle as someone mentioned above. Also it has a weird sound when i turn it off, not sure if they all sound like this. It's hard to explain, sounds like the engine shuts down too quickly ie. mid-rev as if it just dies instantly (not sure if that makes sense)

Its because you need a calculator to work out the 330i consumption :biglol:

 Any fuel consumption thread & Diesel owners are the 1st to post :)

A friend of a friend got an E90 330i. Town driving he averages about 11.5L/100km but thats pussy foot driving, when he drops the hammer it goes above 13 :) Bumper to bumper traffic is like any I6 Bmw, easily above 15.

Its out on the open road where you'll be left impressed, averaging somewhere around the 8's but can easily drop to 7's if you stick to the speed limit :thumb:
