E90 330d injector questions

I suspect one or more of my injectors to be leaking but this is based on the symptoms and what i've managed to read up online. This is my first diesel car so please be gentle if my questions are a bit newby'esk.

Car is an 07 330d (pre-LCI)

Symptoms are a lumpy, almost misfire type idle on cold startup only. Severity varies from day to day.

I would appreciate assistance with the following:
1)Are there any other symptoms of leaky injectors?

2) How can it be accurately diagnosed? I.e. are there fault codes stored?

3) If there is 1 or more leaky injectors, is replacement the only option or cam something like ultrasonic cleaning help as well?

4) who in the Joburg area does ultrasonic cleaning?

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. If it has, please point me in the right direction

Thanks in advance guys

Hey Bud,

My car is doing something similar (LCI 330D) it's the glow plug control unit at fault.

Not sure who can diagnose it for you up in JHB but I'm sure someone will have a recommendation.

Thanks very much.

The car is showing a fault on all 6 glow plugs which i've also read to be linked to a faulty glow plug control unit so probably this is more likely than injectors which is somewhat of a relief.

However, would still appreciate some insight into the injectors (for knowledge and learning) as i believe they can tend to leak and cause similar issues as well

unlikely to be glowplugs, they only switch on when its very cold.(my 330d has had 4 of the 6 glowplugs dead since ive bought the car, pointless to replace them in our climate)

the best would be to get hold of someone that has inpa and have a look at the running characteristics of the injectors, they can be viewed in real time while the engine is running. best way to diagnose the fault.

Mine also has that lumpy idle and a bit of smoke on a cold start, but it only lasts for bout 30secs or so,so I am also looking into getting the faulty injector serviced. It isn't the biggest issue ,but it is quite annoying on start-up. The trick is finding a place that I would actually trust to take the injector to:fencelook:
