E90 330d as a daily for town driving

What are you guys' opinions on using an E90 330d for daily commuting of about 8-10km, town driving only? I guess the DPF would clog up sooner and fuel consumption would pay a penalty. According to uhm.co.za the 330d auto's urban consumption is 10l/100km and the manual is slightly better.

What would a realistic price be for a 2006 model, m sport with Xenons and PDC, FSH, 150k km? About R150k trade and R135k private?

Hi Loom,

I am currently using my E90 330d as a daily, I travel 26km return minimum per day. Through backroads, some traffic and lots of stops and speed bumps.

I avg 8.7l/100km. I have Xcede SW, xflow dp and exhaust. Car makes aprox 200wkw and 620nm.

My car has 190 000km's and going absolutely strong.

Thanks

All your statements and figures are pretty accurate to go by. What you gain on the manual consumption you will lose on replacing the clutch.

Considering your application (town driving) the auto is a no brainer. It's very well suited to the M57 motor. Consumption could be slightly less if you learn to drive the car for consumption. Mods also increase and decrease consumption, depending how you drive.

The 330d is lower maintenance in the long run compared to the 320d.

You can't go wrong with one.

R130-150k is a good price for one in really good nic.

OK, another question:
what's your opinion on pre-LCI vs LCI? The LCI's performance as well as consumption are better on paper and I like the LCI's looks more. Only downside is price. Has anyone owned both? What about reliability?

I had a 2008 330d and now have the LCI 2010 330d. The suspension on the LCI is a lot better than pre-lci. Both my cars were / are on 18's. The ride on the lci is a lot more smoother and not as "crashy" as on the pre-lci (which was just plain uncomfortable on less than perfect roads). The lci is also significantly faster than the pre-lci and consumption only a fraction higher. I had no reliability issues with any of the 5 E90's I've owned over the last 5 years. Great cars, if you can stretch to a lci 330d then do it, awesome cars!

I travel exactly 10km to and from work each day in my 330d LCI, average consumption is sitting at 9.5l/100KM.
Most of the travel is bumper to bumper but any chance I get the foot goes flat, I`m sure if I had to nanny it I could get better on the fuel consumption front.

I have also owned a pre LCI 330d, both are great cars, both were auto.
Performance is better in the lci and the car seems to pick up from low revs a bit better.

If you go pre LCI, I would do software in a heartbeat, i`m pretty sure it will transform into a completely different animal.

enjoy the seach!

If you can stretch your budget get a LCI, my dad's getting 7l/100km with mixed driving. If you buy a pre-lci software and downpipe is a must. I used to get 9.5l/100km in my tuned pre-lci 330d with heavy footed driving. The one in the link is too expensive, should buy a car like that for R145k.
