Hi guys, question on starting: lately my 2010 E90 325i has begun showing a strange starting issue:
- Starting after the car's been standing a few hours occasionally has a delay of around 1-2s between where the cranking stops and the engine starts.
- Everything else (performance, dash lights etc) is normal
- The cranking time is the same as always, it's just this pause between the end of the starter stopping and the engine starting
- Never happens with hot starting or after standing shorter periods
- Not related to environmental temperature and hard to find a pattern: some mornings after standing outside for 12h it starts fine; other hot days after 9h indoors it exhibits this behaviour.
- battery is still stock and showing age after having taken a few knocks from audio experiments, but when run down a bit the cranking is just slower while the period between cranking stop and engine start is still the same. When the delay occurs there is no other indication such as sluggish cranking or flickering lights to indicate a battery problem.
- BMW says all is fine
I'm happy to leave it, but it's never happened before on this car or my previous two E90's, and MP is expiring in a few months: would not be cool if something breaks afterwards that can be fixed now while still covered.
Did some searching but nothing seems to match this behaviour?
