E90 325i A/T oil usage?

So I've had my 325i for exactly 1 month now.

The Saturday after I picked up the car, the oil light came on telling me it needed 1l of oil.

I put in 1l and everything went well but tonight the light has come back on and apparently I need to put in 1l again.

Is the car really burning through oil this quickly? I haven't checked for oil spills in my garage so will be checking tomorrow morning.

Appreciate any advice.

Cheers

More details please,

Mileage?
Year models.
Kms travelled between fill ups?
Driving style?
Any abnormal long trips after lots of short commutes?
Smoke?

Get the lower covers off those what's going on, normally they trap any oil leaks...

Here's the info I can provide now.

Mileage - 214 XXX
2006
500+km per fill up
Light driving with cruise control
One long trip this past sunday from Northern Suburbs to Franschoek and back
No smoking

I try to keep the faster driving to a once a week kind of thing. Car gets quite thirsty when I put foot.

It was on 212 XXX when I filled up the oil.

The mileage of the car was already high when I bought it unfortunately but it fell within my budget.

Car has FSH as well and it was long distance travelling everyday so I wasn't too worried.

So slightly less than 2k km for that 1 ltr? That is higher than most, but some even younger and lower mileage E90 N52's tend to use oil at this rate and even higher. The typical agent spec is no less than 1000 km per litre.

I would check around the engine bay for oil leaks. So check around the valve cover gasket, remove the grey engine cover (just gently lift up and slide out) and check for any leaks from the Valvetronic motor or the oil filler cap, check around and below the oil filter housing, that gasket tends to develop leaks too. This can leak around or within the housing gasket, so check the coolant for traces of oil mixing.

Have someone follow behind you to see if she is smoking at all (I doubt it). It could also be a blocked PCV.

I actually got about 2 300km out of that 1l of oil.

Will do all the checks in the morning and can already confirm that the car doesn't smoke.

my 325 did the same but had 100 000km. I had 2 fill ups between services.

If you call BMW SA and speak to a technician they will take your VIN and tell you if it is normal or not.

Oh another thing, My Car sat at BMW for 6 months. Eventually they drained out all the oil. Filled up with new oil. Told me to drive 5000km and come back.

When i went back they drained out the oil again to measure and it hardly used anything. Found the level sensor being faulty. Replaced some stuff and all was good.

My 2008 325i with 89000km on uses 1 litre of oil every 2000km-2500km depending on how i will be driving,BMW told me there is no leaks and that its normal :bangdesk:

Yeah this sounds exactly like mine.

No oil leaks found anywhere either and I filled up the oil with a litre last night.

This rules out the sensor being faulty if the car really is using all that oil. I just didn't think it was normal for it to burn that much especially when driving 75% cruise control.

08 325i, mileage 75000km, top up 1 litre in 10000km.
Because of that, I change oil and filter every 10000km. Castrol 5W30 will not last 20000km as BMW expected.

My 330i tends to ask for a ltr every 6k - 10k km depending on driving etc. And she only has 75k km on the clock at the moment.
