Hi guys,this morning after my trip from simonstown to saldanha,my car was having this weird rattle comming from the back of the engine,the rattle dissapears when i press the clutch pedal,at the moment my clutch is not shuddering,my guess was the dual mass flywheel,i wanna hear your opinions on this guys.

I have the same issue, it is the thrust bearing on its way out. Do you have any gear changing issues or is it just the noise at the moment?

The noise is 90% your thrust bearing that is being worked. If it is just the noise (do note if it is on cold startup or when just finished doing a trip in peak traffic) and if it isn't that loud (remember that next to any big object like a car or wall it will echo, so park it next to an open area) and listen.

As said i have the same problem and working on these cars is going to cost, I dont want to open something that is working just because there is a little noise coming from the gearbox side. I have checked all the other things, like gear changes (which is still smooth), pedal travel ( which is still good) and then the noise on cold start up (mine only does that when the car has been driven through traffic. I have read up that it is the thrust bearing that is going and to replace it you need to the replace the complete clutch kit (you will be working the new thrust bearing if you just replace that and the labour cost will be the same as when replacing the clutch).

Just keep an eye .......sorry ear on this and also monitor your clutch itself to see that it doesnt deteriorate over time, if that is the case then you will need to replace the clutch. Until then we have to live with the noise, and this is apparently common

Yep I have the same noise. On start when idle settles it starts but for over a year now, still no issue with changing gears but have a severe case of clutch rattle when taking off both forwards n reverse. It's been diagnosed as a clutch rattle but no cure other than changing clutch n thrusters
