E90 320i Oil Pump Change & Cost?

Hi there everybody,

Related to 2011 E90 320i (N46 engine?)

Symptons:

1. Oil low level warning light after travelling about 4km from engine start (I checked oil level yesterday when driving and indicator showed "OK").

2. 10 seconds later, oil red warning light.

3. 10 seconds later engine malfunction lights came on in yellow (loss of power).

4. 10 seconds later sounds like a diesel!

All of the above before I could pull off the road - was only doing about 60km/h but there was no place to pull off immediately.

On checking it out, oil all over right lower front of engine, on pan at bottom (lots) and even behind right front wheel on body cover, and dripping onto ground under engine. Got it towed home.

Is this oil pump failure? Gasket?

Any opinions please. Last BMW I worked on was 1980 518 2 litre!

I suppose oil pump replacement is not a DIY job on this engine?

Thanks for any inputs.

Could also be your timing chain tensioner from the location you are describing, if its not fitted properly or if a gasket/ o-ring seal broke it will spew out oil and also causing the timing chains to clatter(making diesel sound) and the car to run rough and under powered.

Hopefully it is that; as that is a relatively cheapish easy fix. I could be totally wrong.

All the best and keep us posted.
