E90 320i decat

So my e90 has 140k on the clock and has started farting white smoke. So the dreaded valve seals are going to be done. Just deciding on whom to take it to.

Now, what would be the benefit of a decat at the same time?

My logic tells me that the cat must get clogged if oil is being burned.

Thoughts?

Yip will definitely clog up your cats.
I had mine removed on my old 120i for about R850 2years ago.
really helps the engine breath better, changes the tone of the exhaust and avery very slight up in power, with consumption also going down about 0.5l/100km , I thought it was worth it.

Many cats :=):

If you can get it done cheap, and in SS, then do it, there will be a ever so slight improvement in efficiency, but doubt you will even notice.

My thoughts are that the clogged cat will restrict breathing. Effectively causing back pressure

Will chat with the mechanic

Logic is always good.

My experience is that cats don't clog easily, I know of diesel cars with 400,000Km+ running original exhausts.

I would say though, if you have been running your car for a very long time with the busted seals, never giving the exhaust time to heat up properly, there might be a possibility of some clogging.

Let's see what SMG say about it. They are busy doing the valve stems and oil separator at the moment
