E90 320i ... cranks but not starting

Hi all,

Got a mates 320i here ... over the last few months it developed a starting issue ... would crank but would not fire but would eventually start.. It has recently refused to start at all.

A scan has revealed the following codes:

DME:

1) 2FDC interface (EWS -DME) despite being CAS
2) 2BC9 terminal 15 DME monitoring
3) 2C9E system voltage master DME relay
4) 3035 DME relay

CAS:

1) A0B4 starter system

1) I have swopped DME relays to no avail
2) I have determined that the relay is not getting a switching negative signal, presumably from CAS
3) Bypassing relay makes no difference
4) I noticed that when engine is cranking there is no engine speed being recorded

I am suspecting crank sensor amongst other things

What do the guru's think

Cheers

I'm assuming N46 engine, not N46T. Thus 05 to 07 MY. This is a common issue with those ECUs, having intermittent operation and eventually not working at all. The rev counter not moving is also a giveaway. If you had a crank sensor fault, you'd have a Crank Sensor signal fault.

If you in the East Rand area, I can test it for you.

Yes I can, I have a bench jig for these. You send CAs, Key and Ecu to me so I can test. Best send me a PM for address details

Ok ... still no luck.

Ratslaaf was kind enough to test the dme/cas/key and proclaimed it to be in working order.

I only looked at it again last week.

No spark - coil has power but not getting signal.
No square wave from crank sensor ... has 5v and i replaced it ... no difference

Lastly ... with the ignition on i cannot activate via obd the fuel pump, engine fan or click the injectors

Any thoughts?

Cheers
