Hi All

what battery is best for this car? Or should i go to the dealer who are quoting R2,000 for the battery and additional rands to fit and program it!!

Does a 2007 320i need reprogramming after replacing a battery?

Willard is R1,400 all in

thanks

652 battery.... just slam it in, no "programing"
any battery shop should have it.

Go with the Willard and save some cash. Theres no programming required.
You can probably also get some cash back if you recylcle the battery

Hi

Just be aware of fact when replacing the battery

1. If replacing with a different battery then coding is required to enter new battery amperage rating.

2. If replacing with a new battery of same type then only Battery reset is needed.

Reason for this is that the ECU monitors the condition of the battery. During the life cycle of the battery the charging cycle gets adjusted as to not damage the battery. Thus when replacing with exact same battery then only reset is required to Battery condition monitor so that ECU knows that there is a new battery installed.

When replacing with a different battery the ECU needs to be updated with the correct battery type and ampearage rating so that it can apply the correct charging rate. I suspect not doing this step can result in long term battery damage due to battery being under or over charged.

From my personal experience my BMW battery was on its way out. The low bateery indicator would come on after few seconds when running the head unit or lights with ignition off.

After replacing battery with same BMW type I still had issue with low battery indicator warning. It was only after I reset Battery condition monitor with BT cable that issue never arose again.

Suspect that battery was being under charged as ECU was under impression that it is still old battery.

G'Day,

I replaced my battery with a Willards some time last year but never got any warnings after that, though I never programmed it. Does this mean I have somehow shortened the lifespan of the battery even though I'm not experiencing any issues with it right now? My car is a 2006 E90 320i.

Thanks

+1 to what M3_devil said!

Last year I had to replace my car's battery and phoned around for prices. Also researched it and came to the same conclusion - you do have to stick to the same capacity, in my case it was a normal lead acid 70Ah battery. If I wanted to increase the capacity I would have to get BMW (or someone capable of doing this) to code it for 90Ah which is the higher capacity supported by the car apparently. But in each case the new battery has to be registered for the IBS (intelligent battery sensor) to acknowledge that there is a new battery fitted - it then charges according to the new battery and monitors from then onwards.

I ended getting the best replacement battery price from the agents surprisingly and then took the car and battery to a guy that does aircon work as well as diagnostics and he charged me probably half of what the agents quoted to fit and register...

I have a 12V 80ah Original battery in my 2006 320i. If I were to replace it, would I need to get another 80ah battery or can I take a 652 which is 70ah?

So I ended up getting another 80ah battery. I just fit it and everything is fine. No need to do anything else
