E90 320d upgrade question/s

Hi guys, so next year my m/plan expires and seeing as it costs an arm and leg to extend it I thought it would be a good time to start and play with some performance goodies.

my first question is : what is the dimensions of the BMW performance intercooler? I know the stock one has 6 rows and the upgraded one 8 and has a thicker core. I'm sure Mr Turbo can make the same size one at half the BMW price.

I first want to sort out the temperature before doing software.

oh and on decatting the diesel, won't that mess with the back pressure required by the turbo as petrol cars don't really like back pressure but diesels does need it?

And another Q popped into mind, When doing Software on the E90 Lci is it a straight flash through the OBD2 or do you have to bench flash it?

Since nobody else has answered your questions. :nonono:

I am not sure on the Intercooler, however a De-DPF is one of the best mods you can do to the diesel. However you need to make sure this is done correctly, do not hollow out the filter, physically cut it out and replace it with a down-pipe.

The car will be slightly raspier, slightly more responsive and will improve lag quite a bit.

With regards to software, generally tuners will ID/Read the current file on your vehicles ECU, then create their own file off that before Re-Flashing the tuned file - All done via OBD2 Port.

Just a quicky, how does a 2011 cars motorplan expire next year? 100 000km already?! :fencelook:

Awesome, there's life hehehe.

Thanks for the response bud.

Sitting on 76 000 km and with the KM I do each month I should reach 100k in Jan

Made the mistake on my C5 where I hollowed out the cat and the problem came when I wanted to go back to stock. Not making the same mistake again.

The intercooler isnt really all that vital as its very good to begin with, go for software and De-DPF and you looking at just over 150Kw and 450Nm Torque and the economy actually improves!

Chat to Excede up there or Burgy@Project Shift as both have proven results.

In Cape Town my company uses CPI for software which is done via Data Logging and then custom mapping thereafter at a Fanatics Discount.

Cool. Will do the IC just to be on the safe side. It's really not that expensive mod to do ( if you don't go with well known brands)

But not doing any SW until I'm happy that EGT won't be a problem. Had one of my previous diesels blow a turbo after SW due to EGT being too high

Damn that's allot of driving bud.

Not sure if you read this thread, Mr_Arbee's 330d Xcede Tuned

might give you an idea of what you can do and how it changes the performance.

Thanks bud.

Got the car with a lot of km on it but at a bargain price

Ok so on Saturday I went to BMW to go fish for some prices , got the shock of my life. A normal paper filter R700 (K&N only 200 more) , the M intercooler R5600excl. , the fan upgrade I just had to laugh at the guy as he said R10k

the Intercooler isn't bad for a BMW part but then the guy started spinning stories about you have to buy the upgraded ECU with the cooler to increase the boost through the cooler or you might get an Error... after that selective hearing kicked in and I didn't hear anything until I saw the picture of the torque converter on the screen, now how necessary is it to upgrade the torque converter?

I didnt want to make a new topic but if i dont get a reply here then I will. And sorry if I'm hijacking your thread but it seems you've got you're answers.

I have a 2006 E90 320d, she's great, awesome mileage! And she's pretty nippy but lets get real, we all want our cars to go faster.

Could I JBD my 2006? And what gains would i be looking at?

Oh and more importantly are you in cape town? Or where should I go in Cape Town to get it done.

I went to ART (Alspeed Racing Technology), they wanted R3800 for a chip and R6500 for a dyno tune. They said i should get the same results from both. I'm also thinking of getting a K&N air filter I do realize it gives most likely unnoticeable gains, but the sticker adds 10HP anyway :p . Would a dyno be better if i got the K&N so they could allow more airflow into the engine? Or am i talking absolute crap. Sorry I am a rookie.

Also I am interested in the De-DPF mod, can some one just explain this to me a bit more?

Thanks guys

Oh nightstalker i just want to mention you said a K&N filter is R900.

Here's one for R595

I'm thinking about doing this mod because its so cheap

"I went to ART (Alspeed Racing Technology), they wanted R3800 for a chip and R6500 for a dyno tune"

3800 for a 'chip' and 6500 for a tune?

So basically R10300 for a uniq and tune? Thats highway robbery!

Thanks nightstalker.

Yeah burgy thats what i was thinking. But they said i would see the same gains from either the dyno or the chip? i think its a unichip, shit i lost the little card which it said. Why would one get both done? What is the difference? And does anyone know the best place in cape town or along the garden route to do this?
