E90 320D smoking on Start-up

Good Day Fanatics

I have an E90 320D LCI with the 130Kw motor and i've noticed that it gives a puff of white smoke on start-up. There is also a strong chemical smell if you go to the back of the car when it is idling.

The car is still stock and I haven't noticed any power issues as for it to be turbo related, there is also no whining from the Turbo.

The car does have a bit of black smoke if you accelerate as well.
The car does have high millage at 211k Km's.

Could anyone give me some info if they have experienced this, the only issues I found on the forum suggests its a turbo that is gone but I'm not sure if it is that as the car pulls well.

Thanks in Advance Fanatics.

Howzit bud, does you car still have the cat / dpf?

Good Day

Yes it still does have the cat/dpf. Could this be the chemical smell?

EGR clean perhaps

Good Day

Thank you for the feedback, I'll see to dissemble it and give it a clean as well, suspect it would be very dirty by now.

yep your cat / dpf is definitely blocked with that mileage, I would suggest getting a downpipe done aswell as stripping the egr and cleaning it out as waseem suggested.

Thanks for the advice Nikhil, it's much appreciated.

I would need to do a remap as well then when they remove the cat according to my understanding, is this correct?

you don't have to do a remap but its nice to have especially due to the added power gains and better fuel consumption. after you cleab the EGR your tuner of choice can also disable it in the software

If you are going to do a downpipe you don't have to clean the egr because the software will disable it anyway. But if you feel like cleaning it you can. The sooner you do it the better though.

boost pressure alone will not clean a dirty or stuck EGR. I have seen many EGRs on 320ds and polo 1,9Tdi's stuck in the open position so even if switched off in the software Exhaust gas still enters the system as a result.
