Hi guys

Noticed a funny issue on my LCI 320d this evening, when pressing the accelerator, even just slightly there's a "quack" noise coming from the left side of the engine compartment.

It sounds as if there's a duck trapped in there :fencelook:

Have tried researching the issue, from what I've gathered it seems to be the glow plug control unit.

Will send it in to BMW tomorrow, that noise just freaks me out :nonono:

Coldfusion i can assure you that the Diesel engine is one of the best build engines in south Africa.

Especially the E90 as a lot of issues was sorted.

Check to reliability Thread in the Diesel Section and you will c

I do not question the engine, it's from the mother land. The issue is with the cars being assembled here I think? Would love to know what the QA controls at rosslyn are like?

My E90 was better built than my F30 and the F20 is way better then it too (built in the mother land). I have to book my car in again for a suspension knock and rattle in the dash. Drove it in the rain this morning and it is so loose on the road..

Am so sick of having to crawl to the dealers to get things done.. Sorry at my rant I just find it unacceptable that new cars need to go back the whole time.. I purposefully did not buy an older car to avoid this but boy was I mistaken..

Anyway hope bmw can figure out what the noise is, perhaps a loose pipe?

Car went in today, the "quack" is due to some rubber and spring component, can't remember what is was called, was in a rush. They ordered the part, should be sorted next week. Nothing major luckily

 I'm sorry, but I just have to.. YOUR CAR WENT QUACKERS! Glad it's nothing major, can't be funny driving with a farm under the bonnet. Sorry to hear you got a Friday car, that's why I prefer to build, I know what I got. Good luck with the issues.

I can imagine it being the EGR spring controlled by the vacuum. The quack sound would be the vacuum struggling to open the valve.

As far as the EGR cooler goes, why did they change it?

EGR coolers can/may/are prone to leaking if corroded, but otherwise they are bulletproof and does not require servicing or changing.

Lastly, simply blank the EGR and bypass the EGR valve and cooler. Problems sorted and consumption bettered.

Two 'ducks' with one stone...

That was exactly the issue

The cooler was leaking, according to the dealers :fencelook:

Those ducks are six feet under now
