I think a 320d would be a good buy if it's been looked after. I recall, maybe it was on this thread, that Dippies mentioned he'd only spent like 2k on maintenance in the last year... Its all about how well looked after the car is... :fencelook:

If you looking for a cheap daily. Get the tdi.

Yes the 320d is a better car but for a run around I would go for the tdi. Small nipy, light on the juice. Parts will be cheaper. Forget services thats nothing. Main thing with cars around that km and year Something can go wrong.

You will probably get a better resale after a year or so on the tdi

Just my opinion

Asking a VW vs BMW question on a BMW forum expect obvious answers.

Just two pieces of advice.

1.Condition dictates sale.

2.Stick to what you know

I know the bmw's I own quite well and stick to them for that reason. That's not to say they are better than everything else out there. It's easy and cheap for me to fix and run and that adds to the overall owner satisfaction.

Yup, ask the same question on the VW/Audi forums for some more biased opinions.

From my reading about the Audi TDIs it seems that 1.9 > 2.0 > 2.0 (125kW) in terms of reliability. There were two 1.9 versions offered on the Polo, though.

Keep in mind VAG's 120k km service is a biggie.

I wouldn't mind having an Audi :fencelook:

Im Biased... Ive had my fair share of BMW d's so I know what im talking about.
not a single issue with the wifes Polo TDi regarding reliabilty...in fact i recon one of the best buys I have ever done. cost of service - well below 1500/year. and we get 850kms per tank 45l (not highway) urban. Reliability Im afraid is the luck of the draw.
I also have the 125kw Aaaawdi 2.0 TDi and it is also a great ride and very frugal on fuel.

But at the end of the day you will have to decide what you spend your cash on - this is the wrong forum to ask - go to the merc forum and ask them there. you must also factor into the cost insurance and other running costs to get a true reflection if its about cost.

Thats my two cents. :fencelook:
