Hi All,

I bought two pulleys for my 320D, but the removal process sounds complicated.
Can anyone share a DIY or tips on how to remove these and what tools I need before I break anything?

Thanks.

Hi man.
The idler pulley , assuming you refering to the one next to the tensioner, thats easy, release tensioner , unhook belt and unscrew idle pulley, deflection pulley have no idea what that is, if tensioner, once belt is unhooked just unscrew, if u refering to damper pulley I suggest giving it to a mech, heard that bolt is torqued tight, to loosen the jam it by the flywheel, but check youtube sure u fill a video on there,

Tx Clifton.

I bought the two pulleys as shown in diagram below.
2=belt tensioner and 5=deflection pulley.
5 looks easy, not sure bout 2 wrt releasing the tension.

Easy. Where u based. If u want to come to my house. I will change it for you for free. Will take 15 mins max. I'm in lenz south.

I'm replying on my phone so can't show u this. But on the tensioner there is a spot next to it. Its a hex spot. U put a socket in it and turn and tensioner releases the belt. Then un screw. Simple. Or call me when u doing it and I will talk you throught. Just tell me before u call so I can advise u what tools to use.

My number is 0837911656

Why don't u change tensioner and belt one time.

Change the belt. Just an fyi. When I changed mine it made a noise for abt 150km. Then went silent.

So the sound im hearing is a knocking/tappet type noise but it sounds like it's coming from the alternator area. It goes away after driving the car for a while but it annoys me and scares me esp as the car is my wife's daily. Anyways I bought the serpentine belt, but can't find the tool to unload the tension in the pulley. Can someone borrow me this tool? Need the car to be up and running tomorrow otherwise I'll have replace the belt next weekend. I'm in Bloubos.

Hi man.

U need a spline bolt. No other special tool needed. U can buy one from midas. A set of splines is abt 200.

I came right, eventually. I had the splines but up to size 55 not 60. Anyways I replaced the serpentine belt and my car is perfect again. Amazing that I spent money on pulleys which were not at fault but at least I know pulleys r done so that's another 100 000km of sheer driving pleasure. Thanks all for the help ;-)
