My 2006 320d, with 98K on the clock went in for a service yesterday, when changing the fuel filter the guy broke the tiny pipe on the fuel strainer that fits behind the filter. No one in KZN has stock of the part, agents said I would be looking at 3 days for the part to arrive, being a Friday afternoon I did not want to leave my car parked in a workshop over the weekend.

A few highly trained guys from BMW advised that the part namely the Fuel Strainer was simply there to heat the fuel in the event of the temperature dropping below 0 degree's celsius, and that we should simply fit a larger fuel filter and all will be good, as we are in South Africa.

Exactly that was done, a oem larger fuel filter was bought and fitted, bled the system and all good :joy: that was a major relief for me especially at 15:00 on a Friday afternoon. I have chatted to a few guys that have done the same thing on their E90's, and soon learned that it's a common occurance for the part to break, as it fits extremely tight onto the filter.

Great info thanks , at least now I know if it breaks no need to replace it, being out of motor plan that is:fencelook:
