I can never go below 8l/100km with mixed driving. My average is about 8.5l/100km. Pure city driving it doesn't go higher than 8.9l/100km. The only way I can get 4.7l/100km is when I reset my meter on the highway doing 120km/h.

But comparing the 8.5l/100km average of the 320d to my previous 1.8T A4, which sometimes was on 14l/100km, I am still very much happy. I have to add, my driving route does not have any highway driving, which would have made it much better.

Well, to make you feel better my 600cc Turbo Smart Fortwo only does 6.7 on a good day with 45kw & 120Nm Torque.

The E46 that did 4.7l/100km was on a trip from CT to BFN, so definitely not mixed driving. Also, it was with a 2004 model

Mate exactly the same here ! Mixed driving every day and im at ~7.8-8l/100km, but true is I mostly dont drive like an old man :)
And im with xDrive and automatic transmission in the car :p
However the car is very good at long trips, it goes for like 5-6l/100km.

Got myself a 2005 320D E90 about 2weeks ago, and since i reset avg consumption, i'm on 9.1l/100km. 90% of the time I'm in traffic from Fourways to Sandton and back.

Not sure if DPF removal will help, and if so what about the soot?

Mine about 6.3 - 6.5 in town.

How many times do you reset your counter with every tank?

My avg. on a tank is about 7.2l/100km except for my last one that was 7.8 . and before my trip to Centurion this weekend it was at 9.1, I'm sitting on 7.7 now after about 240km ( I reset every time I fill her up :biglol: <- that just sounds dirty :flyfun: )
My car might be over-fuelling a bit.

Ok, i feel I need to comment here, as feedback is always helpful, good/bad.
Anyways, after this post, I did an oil service used filter from stealers, and their 5w-30 oil. Decided to replace air filter as well. So went and filled up and poured a bottle of Wynns Diesel additive. Took a trip to Limpopo and avg consumption was on 6.8l/100km. When I got to Limpopo Car was smelling like something is rotten - must've been DPF regen.

Return was better, achieved 5.9l/100km and this with me doing 140/150 mostly and 190kmh at some stage while overtaking :fencelook:

So far I've filled up driving in urban mostly and consumption is currently at 7.5l/100km, and still need to change fuel filter, which i hope will make car run smoother for longer, while bringing down consumption a bit.

With mixed driving and chilling in traffic for 2 hours at least each day I average 6.8-7.2/100 on mine. Traffic accounts for about 75% of my trip - so I suppose as a mixed run it's not bad..

Hitting the open road on Friday and hoping to hit the claimed 4.4/100 - we shall see..

Have you replaced the Particulate Filter yet, could be the issue? I use Sasol 50ppm.

i do max 2km distance daily (never even reach above 60km/h)... 8.5l / 100km with an autobox ... highway around 6or less at 120 ... i guess this is normal to improve city driving consumption you will need ot follow the advice given by Rolf. De DPF and software ... something I will do in 2013 ...
