E90 320d Brake Shudder

Hi guys,

I have a 2006 320d, have replaced discs and pads , front and rear with ferodo (discs and pads) all round. But I am still getting a terrible shudder when braking after 100km/h.

Any idea what this could be? Any recommendations etc.

Thanks

This could be due to a warped disc.

If you brake too hard before the discs are properly bedded in you can cause them to warp which will lead to brake shudder.

PS - please post an introduction (in the New Members Introduction area). People like some form of an introduction before assisting - the forum is no different.:coolShake:

I have brake moderately during the 1st 500 km and also did the 'bedding in' as suggested. Would you suggest a different brand of disks and pads be used? Even though these are new?

Something else could cause the shudder then. Take it to a mech to have a look.

I never buy Ferrodo as the pads are crazy hard and wear your discs quite a bit. I would rather stick to the OEM discs and pads which are Textar AFAIK.

Could also be a worn control arm bush

Very likely to be a warped disc, I changed recently the rear discs on my corolla and had terrible shudder when braking hard from over 120kph... worked fine at lower speeds... it was Ferodo discs also....:thumbdo:

Thanks for the reply gents. It is warped disc. So going to have to replace disc and pads again..

Any idea where I could get textar pads from? Takealot is out of stock.

Contact Imcomex. They stock most OEM brands and are reasonably priced.

if they still new, cant you skim them...

Also washing your wheels while the brakes are still hot will warp the discs if water get on them.. (typical carwash users suffer from this)

Don't want to take a chance and skim them and they still not right. Just want to rather buy the oem disc with textar pads as suggested as the shudder drives me crazy

I usually never take my car for a wash when brakes are hot so have no idea how they've become warped in such a short time.

Hi there guys,

Sorry to post again, have changed discs and pads with textar and not even 1000km and the car is shuddering again. Have checked the discs are fine, taken it and checked suspension and everything is fine. Any ideas what this could be or where else I could take it to have checked.

Thanks

Sorry to jump in...but had my disc and pads replaced on my e90 323i. Still get that shudder and now looking at the control arm bushings.

If the is any way to test please feel free to let us know. As I am avoiding a costly excersise of replacing everything when I doesnt need to be.

@ice_323i will definitely let you know once I get it sorted out

@khanzbmw was the shudder also only when you were breaking? I have taken it to check and they say all suspension looks good. Maybe going to take it for another opinion. My control arms were changed about 90000kms ago by bmw, so from what you were told it could be possible.

Thanks @tman. Will definitely update once the problem is sorted

Hi guys

Had the control arm bushes replaced and the disc's skimmed. The shudder went away and now a month later it's back again. Can't understand what the cause of this is .

Any suggestions again?
