Good day fellow forumites.

Just curious, was down in Kzn the past weekend........

I noted that the baby diesel was flat in Kzn but back in Jozi, the 20d pulls like a steam train again.

Anyone else notice the same with their vehicles?

It's been TLGP'd to death?

It may be boosting less due to the denser air - less effort needed to make the same power?

Or the placebo effect / expectations are not as strong in KZN.

Moving on to some constructive advice from other forum members.....

Had the same with my 530d. Turbo will give you better results at the reef. NA for coast.

Hmm my experience has always been the opposite. My turbo cars pull better down there.. Especially my 335i, the exhaust burbles are much louder down there.

Erm no, all cars perform better at the coast vs the reef(talking stock cars here)

If modified for the reef, car will need to either adapt or be tuned again for coastal density

OP car would need time to adapt to coastal conditions but may do so so gradually that you may not feel the difference.

Ill have you know Sir that I do firmly believe in warming up properly and cooling down as well.

Irrespective of driving.

A vast majority of the time I am actually taking it rather easy on the boost, unless something comes along that cannot be ignored.

I was also rather surprised when my butt dyno felt a bit underwhelmed.

As soon as we were back in GP though, the exact opposite of what was felt in Kzn had me a bit confused?

I was expecting a bit more poke down there?

Nonetheless, the baby diesel ran smooth and didn't miss a beat though.

This makes sense.

This is what a mate suggested whom is well versed with software and such - but on petrol cars.

But I can say that the baby diesel did feel a bit less furious than what it feels up here.

I elected not to play around wth anything down there as I was only in the area from Wednesday late eve to Sunday Am.

That's more than enough time for it to adapt, but as said, it may have done so gradually. It's amazing how our minds work when it comes to minute changes, eg you may have felt it dead(for whatever reason) as you got closer to the coast and once it had adapted, never noticed the dfference

maybe reset the adaptations when you down there again.............i'm sure this will clear up

i agree with 922-zn, All cars gain at the coast...

we use to force adapt our turbo cars the moment we hit durban and they use to fly there...

I think this may be the issue?

Having said that, as soon as we were back up here, back in business!

I elected to not force adapt obviously.

Odd thing is that it was suggested that my car may indeed already have software?

I experienced the exact opposite at the coast December with a 120d. The car was far more punchy and less laggy. It was definitely a better car at the coast.

Afaik all cars perform better at the coast whether it's N/A or forced induction - the amount whereby performance increases just differs.

I can start feeling the car pulls better the moment I reach the coast? The ECU adjusts real time?

Not sure with F series, but I know with E series, it requires a few hard 3rd/4th gear pulls

What is a hard pull in 3rd or 4th gear if I may ask? How fast do a 320d run in 3rd and 4th peaked rpm, suppose 4000 rpm as the power drops from there :fencelook: Advise the 6 cylinder guys here

Went down to the coast often with my 320, and it definitely pulled stronger at the coast.

Keep in mind both turbo and normally aspirated cars perform at their peak at the coast. Turbo cars just loose less power up here.

My 330d feels much stronger at the coast, also got better dyno figures at ODR which i was told is a stingy dyno

I didn't notice a difference in power.... but definitely a difference in consumption....., but that might also be the hills and valleys in chatsworth....oh and the bloody speed bumps..... drives me mad.
