E90 320D 165k Service Questions

Hi Guys,

So my 09' LCI 320D is nearing 165k and the service light has come up.

This is my first BMW, got the car for a couple of months now about 7000kms ago. I've already done the gearbox service at ZF. I have done a power steering fluid flush (steering was a bit tight) and coolant flush (had to change noisy waterpump).

I would just like to find out what should be done at this mileage. [Oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, diesel filter]... is there anything I'm missing or anything i should give a look over as preventative measure?

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated

Check the vibration damper pulley ...... depending how long ago it was changed.

I change oil and oil filter every 7500km:thumbs:

I would change all the belts together with the damper pulley as well. I dont think theres much else.

If the damper pulley hasn't been replaced as yet, definitely look into the condition and potential replacement.

Other than that, as you mentioned, look at filters. Air&pollen you should be able to judge if it needs replacing.

Lastly, at that mileage its probably a good idea to look at the condition of your shocks and disks. You can get a shock test done at your local Supaquick, and its also pretty easy to measure wear on the disks.

Thank you all for the responses. It is very much appreciated.

Will definitely give the damper pulley a look.

I will also have to give the shocks a look over. But the disc and pads I have already checked and they look pretty ok for now.

If I had to purchase this pulley where would be a good place to get it from, besides BMW. I am in Durban, but I don't mind ordering and couriering it from wherever if it was worth it.

Do a bit of research before you purchase. I have heard non OEM pulleys can be a bit of a hit or miss. For that reason I went OEM with my 320d. I think it was R6600 fitted at Ross Duncan a year or 2 ago.

Another thing to be aware of; this pulley is not like a cambelt failure that will cause massive damage if it fails. Worst case senario, you will be stranded at the side of the road. If your pulley has no hairline cracks, and there is no majour "chirping" from the engine pay yet, you should have sufficient time to research before purchase.
